Summary: Purchased this to replace a JVC unit that did not have hdmi inputs. The sound on the JVC was slightly better but to be fair it was thx certified and did cost 3 times as much as this sony. So far I've been very pleased. This model is new enough to have pass through for the 4 HDMI inputs and upscaling for the HDMI output, yet is old enough to have a good selection of pre-HDMI component and composite video connections. The speaker calibration process was very easy.
Summary: Solid receiver with plenty of power. Went to this from an aging Sony ES receiver and I was slightly worried about taking a hit in the quality department. But it's been 2 months and I'm very pleased. I like the clean nearly button-free exterior and the fact that it's setup with all the latest formats including 3D. I would like to see Sony enhance the on-screen menu though, it's clunky and very poorly designed.
Summary: I have an irregualr room size so I need a wireless configuration for the surround speakers. I have had an old Sony DVD home theater with S-air wireless transmitter and receiver and it worked fine with the room. I have been looking for upgrading the sound system and found this receiver. I thought the S-air would be compatibale with the older one because there was no-where specifying their differences.
Summary: I bought this receiver for the HDMI plug-ins and I'm very pleased with it. It looks great. The one drawback is it doesn't have a 'switched' plug-in in the back for my powered subwoofer. Consequently I have to turn on the subwoofer for the movies instead of it coming on when the receiver is turned on.
Summary: I like it a lot and very happy with it. Great sound and connection capability. Not going to get a 5 star since it was difficult for me to adjust some settings at first. But now i got used to it and I know what i have to do to make my system work. Overall I recommend it!
Summary: I love how this STR-DN1010 receiver works seamlessly with my Sony TV. I know many reviews disliked the display but I found it easy to use. It was easy to select the sound source and easy to select the speaker configuration. My goal was to have a system that worked well with the surround sound of movies and also with my music. It is easy to switch form one speaker configuration for multichannel film sounds to a two channel music arrangement.
Summary: Introduction: So, I finally found myself in a position to upgrade my home audio. For many years I used and rather enjoyed my 5 dic DVD changing home theater in a box (Sony DAV-HDX500/i BRAVIA Home Theater System) but still didn't feel like I was getting the full audio experience out of my movies and music.
Summary: I got this receiver to replace another one that was not 3D capable (also a Sony). I have to say, I was plesantly surprised that this model cost hundreds less but works just as well if not better than the one it replaced. Now, a caveat: I hope you like reading manuals, and flipping back and forth, and going online for answers...'cause this thing was really complicated to set up...and I'm pretty good with this kinda stuff. The pass-through function is cool..
