Unit was a Lemon , Sony customer service was worse!
19 December 2011
Summary: I purchased this unit on November 27th, 2009 and within 3 months of just using this receiver for nothing more than the occasional movie (surround sound), light music playing, etc. (It has never been cranked up, or abused), it blew 2 integrated circuits (Microchips). After contacting Sony Customer Service, they told me it had to be shipped to the closest repair center (Laredo, TX from Ohio).
Summary: The unit stopped sending a signal to the speakers after 6 months of light use. The worst thing, however, is the service. After having wasted a few weeks of time, they told me that they "could not reproduce the problem". How difficult is it to connect it to a player and a set of speakers? Still having my doubts that my speakers were to blame I ordered another receiver. The speakers are working perfectly.
Summary: After about a month, the receiver started going into protect mode. The volume would not be turned up loud at all, and I would have to turn off the receiver and then power it back on. Picked up a Denon to replace this unit and now the Sony collects dust. I would suggest people google this model and protect mode to get some ideas what they "could" be getting into.
Summary: I have had nothing but headaches with this system. It worked fine for about 3 months. Then, the LG TV that it's connecting to stated - No Signal. I spent numerous time with Sony support on the phone. Conclusion was to have the system repaired. So off it went to Laredo TX to be services (plus shipping cost to me). They had the system for 10 days, then returned it back to me with No Fault found on the work order.
