Summary: I have never regretted purchasing Sony products. From alarm radios to televisions, personal recording devices to audio equipment, the quality is outstanding. This STR-DN1000 became available just before the Holidays and it was too good to pass up. Excellent sound/receiving and the SIRIUS addition was a neat extra. We have the receiver hooked up to the HDTV (yep, it's a Sony too) and it produces tremendous, clear quality sound.
Summary: I bought this as a replacement for a mid end ONKYO stereo receiver that died and I havent been this happy with a sony product since I got my first walkman. The 7.1 sounds amazing with my polk subwoofer and matching speakers.
Summary: Great amp, use it for 7.1. Infinity 800 series speakers. Paired it with a sony blu ray player and sony 55 inch Bravia. Amazed at the sound quality for the price. I was able to pick the STR DN1000 up on Ebay for $300.00. You really can't beat it. I am very picky about surround sound but this component is sure to impress.
Summary: Great product, especially for the price(under $300). It has all the features I need and then some. I haven't even had a chance to get around to using all of the features. I haven't had any problems, concerns, questions or anything else to speak of. I would recommend this product to anyone. SONY.... You can't go wrong with SONY!
Summary: The biggest reason I decided to buy this unit was the up to date HDMI tech that it is capable of. Most units out there are still limiting the HDMI usages. Some will not let the HDMI carry sound, only video. When that is the case, you still need to run an additional audio cable to the receiver. This unit allows for all the current uses of HDMI to be put into use.
Summary: I am pleased with the product itself. It was exactly what i was looking for (i was looking for a powerful midrange A/V receiver to upgrade from a 5.1 system to a 7.1). The power is just right, pushing my floor standing speakers to their max without much resonance. The audio encoding is pretty solid with good variation in channels.
Summary: This is utterly incapable of handling a 1080p signal. It so conveniently says so in the manual. Buried deep under the awesome stuff it can do. The manual is complete and often inaccurate (look at the HDMI 3 input for instance). It really surprises me that even set to Direct input/output over HDMI a 1080p signal is downgraded to 1080i. Test for yourself, hook up your computer or PS3 at full 1080p and it will be a 1/4 of your screen and you'll notice a smaller resolution.
Pros: Energy Efficient, Great Sound Quality
Cons: Difficult To Set Up, No 1080p support, Runs Hot
