Summary: I have never regretted purchasing Sony products. From alarm radios to televisions, personal recording devices to audio equipment, the quality is outstanding. This STR-DN1000 became available just before the Holidays and it was too good to pass up. Excellent sound/receiving and the SIRIUS addition was a neat extra. We have the receiver hooked up to the HDTV (yep, it's a Sony too) and it produces tremendous, clear quality sound.
Unit was a Lemon , Sony customer service was worse!

Summary: I purchased this unit on November 27th, 2009 and within 3 months of just using this receiver for nothing more than the occasional movie (surround sound), light music playing, etc. (It has never been cranked up, or abused), it blew 2 integrated circuits (Microchips). After contacting Sony Customer Service, they told me it had to be shipped to the closest repair center (Laredo, TX from Ohio).

Summary: The Sony STR-DN1000 7.1-Channel Audio Video Receiver (Black)is a awesome sight to look at for sure, but even novice audiophiles understand that you don't purchase a receiver because she looks better than your old girl. You purchase a receiver b/c you want to know if she can perform well at all task. Well, let me tell you...she can, this receiver is well equipped and performs very well.
Summary: I recently updated much of my home theater equipment , and needed to replace my Sony STRE-985 receiver, which did not have any HDMI connections.I checked CNET's review and they rated a Pioneer receiver the best, but no one had any in stock , so I took a hard look at the STR-DN1000. At $180.00 less than the Pioneer unit , this was a steal.
Summary: Bought this to replace an 11 year old 5.1 Nakamichi. The surround and digital output using all HDMI produces thunderous bass and crystal clear highs. My mom was watching Angels and Demons on Blu Ray last night and 700 watts of the exploding Volkswagen made the walls resonate and she jumped out of her chair! Unit is 'expensive' looking and the GUI seems pretty decent so far.
Summary: Currently listening to the new Jimmy Buffett album on my Sony STR-DN1000 receiver. Sounds GREAT! My Set up: Sony Bravia 52 inch KDL-52V5100 Bose Acustimas 15 Yamaha NS-iw960 in wall center channel speaker Time Warner cable DVR box Monoprice HDMI Cables Monoprice wall mount Chose this receiver because I've always liked Sony and wanted my components to match. Looked at every receiver and read every receiver review. This unit is as advertised.
Summary: I have had this receiver since Aug. 1, 2009, and am very happy with it. It is missing some features like S-VHS inputs but none that I care about. I purchased it to use with HDMI devices in a 5.1 setup in one room. It works great for me and I highly recommend it. PLUSES: * Excellent audio. * Good GUI that is easy to use, but you must read the manual first and consult it as you go (at least I had to).
Summary: For what it is, a mid-range priced receiver, it's really good. Are there better receivers? Sure. Am I an audio-phile (or whatever)? No. Can I tell the difference between loud-and-distorted and loud-and-clear? Yes. Am I going to drop more than a grand for a receiver? No. Am I going to spend the least amount possible for the basics in a receiver? No. Am I happy with this receiver and it's performance? Yes; very much so.
