An OK Reciever

Rw Scolari "navy689", Amazon
6 November 2013
  • Summary: This A/V unit is OK, and does the job. I had it paired with a Sony TV and had no problems. Recently I've paired it with a Samsung Smart TV, a Samsung BluRay player and a Direct TV Satellite receiver. The Sony receiver works with each of the other units but switching back and forth is complicated. It can be made to happen but the Smart TV works against the Smart Sony. My recommendation is to stay with the same brands through your system.

Good features, poor scaler

luxieb, Ebay
9 March 2012
  • Summary: I bought this receiver mainly for its built-in scaler which scales all analog video to HDMI output so I only need to connect it to the TV with one HDMI cable. But the scaler in this receiver is a disappointment. First, it only accepts 480i analog video, even from the component input. This means that the DVD players with 480p output and the HD DVRs with 1080i output cannot be scaled. Second, the 480i scaled picture is too bright and the aspect ratio cannot be adjusted.

7.1 Challenging set up

Vandeeii, Amazon
18 December 2010
  • Summary: If anyone is trying to connect this receiver in 7.1 with "front high" speakers be sure to use PLIIz mode. It took me about 3 hours to figure this out. Page 34 of the manual says if you are using "front high" or "surround back" to turn on speaker B "SP B or SP A B" via "SB ASSIGN". When I tried the "SB ASSIGN" button was dimmed out not allowing me to select it.
