Excerpt: The Sony STR-DH550 5.2 channel AV Receiver is an outstanding piece of equipment. I have a 92 inch HDTV and use Bose cube speakers with out the bass module. I have a 15 inch subwoofer with a 500 watt amp and a 10 inch sub with a 250 watt amp. Being able to utilize both subs using the dual subwoofer connection changes the entire sound spectrum affording the sub bass and mid bass rounding out the way the movie producers and television engineers intended the sound track to...
Pros: 3D pass through, Easy setup, Sufficient power, Total Hdmi Control, Total Hdmi Controll
Summary: Replaced my previous Sony receiver to be able to have HDMI access, IPOD access, with my 5.2 system. The receiver provides ample power for my Triad Speaker System. Ample sound settings for any venue you may have, and it is very easy to setup and use.
Pros: Easy set up, ample power, clean sound at low and high volume, but also is dependent upon the fidelity of your speaker system.
Cons: The only constructive criticism I have, being old school, is having a complete printed user manual. A setup guide is provided to get setup to get you started, and I was able to download the user pdf file provided by the Sony website.
Summary: It is excellent product if you already have a HTPC. This has lot of power compare to Denon and Onkyo. Overall, this amp produce better sound than the similar 5.2 Harman (HK) amp. I am very surprise. It sounds even a bit better than my Denon amp. This beast can decode anything. Do not bother to get 7.2 or 7.1 amp. There are not a lot of title has 7.1 DTS. Save your money and get a good 5.1 amp and better speakers.
Summary: It sounds great! I set the whole Sony system- a new 40" TV, Surround sound 5.2 A/V receiver, two tower speakers, a sub woofer and a Bluray dvd/cd in just a few minutes! All I need now is some movies and my favorite CDs! -Billmelater and $25.00 to 30.00 a month! A great deal for all to enjoy!
Summary: This receiver gets 5 stars from me for price and value. The 4 hdmi in is handy with all my components being hdmi capable except my older cd player which is also connected.Easy setup i thought easy to use and understand. My only critisism is the top volume seems like it could be a little louder (73??
Summary: In the past year I have owned three different Sony receivers. The first two were the 550, the one I purchased and the replacement. I also bought a high end Sony receiver from a friend and took it to get repaired. It wasn't but 2 years old. The HDMI circuit board was fried. The tech says he sees a lot of the Sony receivers with this problem... My friend kindly took it back.
Pros: Bells and whistles.
Cons: Where do I start...? The scan function takes forever and is not user friendly, the center speaker sounds muffled(power amp issue) bugs in the system, etc....
Summary: This is a great receiver with plenty of options. I had originally purchased a Yamaha and didn't like it. So, I returned it (Crutchfield is great about returns) and got this one. It was easy to setup. I couldn't be happier.
