Summary: Looking back, I should not have purchased a refurbished receiver/amp. Or I should have bought a different brand. It's not worth money. I've had it for 7 months and HDMI DVD port is not working.
Summary: Conveniently discontinued by the manufacturer. Haven't even owned it a full year and it's shot. Turns on for maybe five seconds before it dies. Tried to have it replaced but that's a no go. Do yourself a favor and buy one that's still in production.
Summary: This is a great system. I installed my home theater system about 14 years ago, so I needed a receiver/amplifier with standard RCA audio/video inputs/outputs. My Aiwa system was fried in an electrical surge, and I looked long and hard for a suitable replacement. This one is actually much better than the original Aiwa. It is easier (more intuitive) to use, greater volume capability, and has a few (albeit limited) updated features (such as inputs for IPODs and tablets).
Cons: Never before have I seen a piece of equipment this defective by design. The biggest flaw being a PROTECTOR "feature" that suddenly shuts down the device for seemingly no reason at all. Upon closer inspection I believe it is related to overheating, but it is not even that hot when it occurs. Here is Sony's explanation of the issue: https://us.en.kb.sony.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/39211/c/65,66/p/41901,43145,92877,70333/ There is no way to turn this "feature" off. So e...
Summary: Best receiver I ever owned. Easy to set up thanks to the automatic speaker set up. I love the dual subwoofer outputs and the built-in HDMI switcher is a definite plus and takes the load off the TV. Sound quality is excellent and no loss in HD quality. It's future proofed for beyond 1080 resolution. Great price, lots of warrented great reviews.
Summary: Great receiver. I purchase new speakers to use with it and I"m very satisfied. The instructions are a little vague, but eventually you'll figure it out. Customer service was terrible. The first receiver I got was defective. I called customer service and couldn't get the guy to understand that I had an older tv that didn't have the same menu as the instructions. He finally hung up on me. The second guy I got told me I had to buy a new tv!
