This does what it says for the most part

G. Tautenhahn, Amazon
20 April 2013
  • Summary: I have had this receiver for a couple of years and had no problems but keep getting told to use hdmi. I use an optical for my TiVo a coax for my DVD. I have always done that but I have a roku 3 also but doesn't give me 5.1 sound. I have an optical port for BD but the new roku has no optical port only hdmi. Only way to get sound is go optical out from the tv to BD optical in. Gives me 2 channel stereo but uses all the speakers.

  • Summary: Took a while to get the shipment started, but I like the product so far (early days still). Think all features work, but will know more after time passes.

good receiver but needs remote to use the FM turner

David J. Nettleton, Amazon
15 December 2012
  • Summary: I bought this used receiver because it switches HDMI and digital audio. The only problem is that you need the remote to use the FM turner. Since the seller didn't send the remote this is an ongoing problem.

Unexpected Value

ApacheMike, Amazon
14 December 2009
  • Summary: I bought this product(Sony STR-DG520), it arrived on time, No Damage, Complete, and Easy to set-up, giving that I'm not an electronics technician. I took it one step at a time. The given instructions were simple enough to follow. Knowing that I have a last of the Sony tube type TV's the back panel was cut and dry. While setting up the firmware, I found new terms and stayed away from things I did not understand, and things moved right along until I finished.

Pretty good.

J. Jin, Amazon
27 October 2009
  • Summary: I'm only using the receiver for a 5.1 speaker set I have for my computer, so I haven't used anything except the on/off and volume features.... the sound quality seems pretty good though, so I have no complaints.

I think it's a good value

D. Berg, Amazon
5 September 2009
  • Summary: The other reviews of this product, were VERY helpful in letting me make an informed decision! It has 2 HDMI inputs, but as others have said, the receiver does not process the audio from the HDMI signal. There are 2 digital audio inputs. One optical, and one using a single RCA plug. I have the HDMI from my high def cable box plugged into the port for "DVD", and my HDMI upconverting DVD player is plugged into the "BD" blue-ray disk port.

Best value HDMI receiver

K. Hsieh "Phantom Reviewer", Amazon
23 August 2009
  • Summary: This receiver is a good reliable HDMI receiver at a good price. It decodes most formats, and has HDMI pass-thru. Not much in terms of bells and whistles, but over very good for a 5.1 dolby surround sound setup. I am happy with my purchase. Can't go wrong.

Stay away from Sony receivers

RSR, Amazon
8 August 2009
  • Summary: I`m writing this after owning the product for 1 1/2 years, so this will give you an idea of how bad Sony has gotten. It worked fine for the 1st year, then the left and right front channels went out shortly after the warranty expired. This past week the digital coaxial output died, rendering my DVD player useless. It was then pulled out of service. In no way was the unit abused or turned up to anywhere near full volume.
