Summary: I received this item very quickly. It was packed and shipped very carefully. I have not fully used the system yet as it is intended to be placed in my basement, once it's remodeled. It will be the sound source for a new Sony 60" LED TV I plan on adding to my entertainment area. I did plug this receiver to make sure it turned on and was impressed with how it differs to other receivers I've purchased in the past. This receiver has more knobs than buttons.
Summary: I upgraded from the STR-DG500, and at least according to the model number, it is practically twice as good. Nice touches are the tuned calibration setting, which adjust the sound equalizing to match either flat response, response to match the front speakers, or according to Sony engineer specifications.
Summary: I looked for several months to find a receiver that had pre-outs and was less than a thousand dollars. Even though the STR-DG1000 retails for around 900, I found it for 430 after shipping after about 4 months of searching. This is an excellent system, not only does it have the pre-outs that I needed to amplify my Polk RTI-12s, it supplies sufficient power (120w/channel) to my surrounding speakers (Polk M-40s) and center channel (Polk CS-2).
Summary: great all around, all function receiver, it is great that you can find a receiver that passes audio and video through HDMI for such a great price. the home theater experience is un real, it really takes the work of setting up delays and speaker configuration out of the equation. I run PS3, a gaming PC, satelite tv, all through HDMI, I love it. A+++ all around, worth the money.
Summary: I have owned my STR-DG1000 for about 8 months now. I was in need of a more up-to-date receiver for my newer HDTV and being a Sony customer for years with no problems, Sony it was. Set-up was pretty straight-forward - Throw away your old RCA plugs and simply attach HDMI cables to any components you want to play through the receiver and plug them in! On screen set-up is a breeze.
Summary: I have had many Sony Receivers thru the years, however with the birth of HD TV, the receiver has taken on a new role. I have never had any problems with Sony, so I have stuck with them. However with this receiver I'm impressed, I actual think its the best addition to my home theatre yet. This receivers best feature is how it up converts all video inputs to HDMI. I only need to have one cable go to my TV (this feature is usually found only in very high end receivers).
