Summary: This receiver is a throwback to the days when stereo equipment was made for "Power, Versatility & Sound-Quality"; when terms like "Total Harmonic Distortion" was a factor in purchasing sound amplification systems. Although SONY is the PITS when it comes to customer support, and warranties are rarely worth the paper (electrons) they're printed with, when their stuff works, it makes the grade!

Summary: This is a very good stereo. It's not hard to get used to all the functions once you've gone thru them a few times. Because this is an older model it doesn't have HMDI connections which is what most of the newer electronics request or require. It does have several ports for fiber optic but those connections too are becoming useless to use depending on your other electronics.
Summary: I loved this unit at first, then after about a month, most of the buttons on the front panel stopped working. The receiver always wanted to cycle through all the listening modes. I ended up pushing one of the listening mode buttons on the front panel in and jammed a small piece of paper in there to get it to stay at one mode. I was able to use the remote to access all the receiver's functions until it also died. Now the left back surround works intermittently.
Summary: I bought this receiver about 10 years ago and have been very happy with it. For the most part of its life it has been used just as a 2 channel reciever. It has plenty of power, I hooked up a pair of JBL cf-120 speakers and also another set of boston acoustics hs 450. I have since used these four plus a definitive center speaker to create my suround sound. At first this receiver was a bit complicated but now I like the way I can fine tune my speakers.
Excellent receiver - prone to solder joint problems

Summary: We purchased this surround sound receiver new many years ago and have been pleased with its performance and it has provided many years of trouble free enjoyment. A few months ago however our STR-DE845 developed an issue where after it had been turned on for 10-15 minutes we would hear a relay click and the audio would cut out.
