The louder the better, but limited in equalizing and balance control.

Summary: The Sony STR598 6.1 works well enough but very limited in the equalizer control. Given the choice today I'd go with something that had more user control. It's fairly easy to set up for anyone who's familiar with audio equip. All in all it sounds fairly good over 40-50db pretty weak drivers below that though. So it works okay but in the future I wouldn't buy this class receiver again.
Summary: The STR-DE598 FM Stereo/FM-AM Receiver comes equipped with 6 channels supplying 90 Watts per channel If you have a newer home audio system you may want to look for a receiver that has HDMI inputs, this system dosnt have them. But I still enjoy this system. Built-in Dolby Digital and DTS decoding in the STR-DE598 will surround you with 6.1 separate channels of digital sound for sound quality that analog systems can't match.
Summary: The quality of this DE598 6.1 channel receiver was better than I expected. This product produced clear and amazing surround sound just with very fair price. I will recommend this product to my friends.
Summary: This reciever was fine for a while but then I lost the dolby processing, the center channel started dropping out, and I only got full surround sound through the coaxial input. I like Sony, but sound doesn't seem to be something that they do well at. *shrugs* I've read some other reviews for other Sony receivers that said there were problems with channels dropping out. I don't know what is causing the issue, but on mine I can wiggle the wire to get it back.
The sony is an excellent receiver, that offers good power and performace at a very affordable price. At 149..99s priced to sell.

Summary: The sony is an excellent receiver, delivering high power and good sound at an affordable price. The sony is rated at 90 watts x6 40 to 20,000 cps at 8 ohms at 1000 cps.The full rated power of this set is more like 70 watts x 6 at 8 ohms.As with most receivers the power ratings are overly optimistic. They test the power with one or two channels driven. If you were to drive all six channels full spectrum simultaniously, the power delivered, would drop considerably.
Summary: When I got this receiver, I taught it might sound real bad since i only had two bookshelf speakers. I was very wrong when this receiver delivered full bass and tremble to my Extended Defenicion Sony Speakers. After about 2 months I got a Subwoofer which was incredible! The sound was as if it was coming out of the speakers! The bass was smooth and realistic, not punchy.
Summary: Buying from Amazon was cheapest price especially with free shipping. Stepped up for more power per channel. Stayed in the Sony family. (Previous Sony surround, output to center speaker quit) Dislike the speaker hook ups in back, difficult to attach speaker wires and screw down connections. Overall happy with purchase.
