The louder the better, but limited in equalizing and balance control.

Summary: The Sony STR598 6.1 works well enough but very limited in the equalizer control. Given the choice today I'd go with something that had more user control. It's fairly easy to set up for anyone who's familiar with audio equip. All in all it sounds fairly good over 40-50db pretty weak drivers below that though. So it works okay but in the future I wouldn't buy this class receiver again.
Summary: The STR-DE598 FM Stereo/FM-AM Receiver comes equipped with 6 channels supplying 90 Watts per channel If you have a newer home audio system you may want to look for a receiver that has HDMI inputs, this system dosnt have them. But I still enjoy this system. Built-in Dolby Digital and DTS decoding in the STR-DE598 will surround you with 6.1 separate channels of digital sound for sound quality that analog systems can't match.
Summary: The quality of this DE598 6.1 channel receiver was better than I expected. This product produced clear and amazing surround sound just with very fair price. I will recommend this product to my friends.
Summary: This reciever was fine for a while but then I lost the dolby processing, the center channel started dropping out, and I only got full surround sound through the coaxial input. I like Sony, but sound doesn't seem to be something that they do well at. *shrugs* I've read some other reviews for other Sony receivers that said there were problems with channels dropping out. I don't know what is causing the issue, but on mine I can wiggle the wire to get it back.
Summary: I purchased this in April of 2007 for $66. I will primarily use this to provide the audio when watching a DVD. I will also listen to CD's and the FM stereo. My front speakers are 2 Pinnacle bookshelf with a Sony 100 watt subwoofer. I played Green Day at a high volume level to test the system. It sounded great with no distortion. The receiver did feel hot on the top surface. I am still reading through the lengthy operating instructions.
Summary: This receiver is a dream. It produces amazing sound quality with MANY options for different effects. I am a DVD collector and gamer and love high quality sound more than anything. I am only 18 but I know quality electronics, it is in fact what i am going to college to further develop. The Dolby settings are a very nice option for those who want high quality sound reproduction. I play my Playstation 3 on it all the time.
Summary: I've been buying SONY products for 30 years and I've never been as disappointed as I am with this product of theirs. Besides the fact that I have yet to figure out why the speakers cut-out periodically... (SONY says I probably need to send it back to be checked) I think this receiver is overly complex and hard to use. Almost nothing about it, except the basic controls, seem to be intuitive. If I could send it back for a refund I would.
