Summary: was told that it worked , and t it worked for about 3 seconds before it went into protective mode. cost to much to return, was put in to the recycle bin at the local dump.unable to clear protect mode cost to much.
Summary: I have had this receiver for close to six years and it sounds just like it did when I got it, if not a little better. I used it in my bedroom for the longest time, then in a small living room where I watched all the Lord of the Rings movies which they all sounded like the theater, Loud hard hitting, clean and very crisp. I can't say I don't like the center channel sound because I have a crapy center channel speaker.

How To Use A Tivo universal Remote to Control a Sony AVR Receiver STR-DE597
David Nathanson, Amazon
4 March 2010
Summary: For those of you who have a Tivo, and also have a Sony AV Receiver model STR-DE597 this is for you. You may have noticed that none of the Tivo provided remote codes are able to control the volume on your Sony STR-DE597. Of course there is a trick. It is possible (and easy!) On the Sony AVR the command mode must be changed on the receiver to AV1. The receiver and the remote are factory set to AV2. Unfortunately, the Sony remote can not speak AV1.
Summary: This receiver was money well spent! It has so many audio options, from the speaker inputs to the sound you want it to produce. I have this connected to my dvd player and play station and the surround sound that is put out is amazing. When watching football games and other sporting events, you feel like you're in the stadium. It picks up sounds in movies that you never heard before. This receiver will blow you away.
A good receiver for the price...but not for Amazon's price!

Summary: I replaced my old receiver with this one. In general I'm quite pleased. I can't, however, figure out how to make the subwoofer work with music; it only works on the "DVD" setting. The manual is no help at all and I haven't found what I'm looking for on the internet. Anyhow...as most people who purchase it will say, it's a great receiver for the price. Whatever you do, though, don't spend 275.00 on it! It doesn't even approach 200.00 anywhere else.
