The clarity of this amp is amazing, especially when paired with the HAP-s1 player

Summary: I bought the Sony STR-DA5800es a couple of months ago to replace my trusty Onkyo 805 and have been blown away by the difference in sound quality. The clarity of this amp is amazing, especially when paired with the HAP-s1 player. The ethernet connectivity is useful too. It doesn't do airplay, spotify, etc, - but who cares. It sounds great with music and movies. Speaker setup is to my ears much more effective than the old audessy system I was using before.
Great Sound Quality can't Bi-Amp and have 7.1 at same time.

Summary: I am a listener who must hear everything from the movie or music. Every breath, whisper, every instrument within the orchestra (not just a blended orchestral sound). I have to clearly hear every hit on a drum/cymbal from Neil Peart's Drum kit to the point I can tell where on the drum head it was being hit, every harmonic from a single guitar note and the tone/force of the pluck or pick that created it. This receiver has done it for me.
WHAT IS ANY PRODUCT WORTH IF YOU CANNOT SECURE PARTS OR SERVICE!!!!!!

Summary: I have truly enjoyed Sony high end and ES equipment for many years, and all is generally wonderful until you have to have it repaired, and I do not say that lightly. I have reviewed the new Sony STR-DA5800ES, and it is a beautiful component indeed, but I urge buyers to consider one very important factor when purchasing Sony products, CAN THEY BE REPAIRED.
Summary: This is the best receiver I've ever owned in my 20yrs owning SONY ES line. It is hooked up using multiple blu rays players to multiple TVs throughout the house. I decided not to activate the Control4 as of they require additional hidden cost you wouldn't know about. I called a local authorized Control4 programmer and they wanted to charge me a whooping $1000. Just to program! Please! Anyways, I got it all hooked up using all 3 zones. hmmm.
Summary: This is not a cheap receiver but is worth every penny. I can operate all my equipment from one remote and from my iPhone as well. Setup was easy and the auto-calibration system set all my speakers to a perfectly balanced level.
Summary: I replaced my 18 year old Sony DA80ES receiver which finally had technical issues with the new Sony STR-DA5800ES. Prior to purchasing the STR-DA5800ES, I tried some cheaper $700 receivers, but none of them held a candle to my old DA80ES. The sales rep at Best Buy said, "Your ears have gotten used to good quality sound, it's hard to go backwards". So what better way to replace my old Sony than with a top of the line Sony AVR STR-DA5800ES.
Best sound quality I have heard from an AVR, but the GUI is lacking

Summary: I've been a Denon guy for many years. I caught this Sony AVR on sale for just over half the list price, so I decided to make a switch. The main thing to note is that the power and the quality of sound is impressive to say the least....really outstanding. Having said that, though, here is what I miss from my Denon (specifically the Denon X3000): Immediate, on-screen display of the volume level: This is what I miss the most.
Summary: I did a strait swap-out of my Onkyo TX-NR1009 last night (same wiring, same HDMI connections, speakers, etc) and I have to say that the difference couldn't be more profound. The audio quality for music and bluray playback is simply phenomenal. The sound is much cleaner with superb clarity in the midrange I couldn't get with the Onkyo. I have Polk Rti A7's (bi-amped), a CSI A4, DSWpro550, and A3's for front-high, and surround.
