Summary: This unit has been working after the disappointment with the STR DA5200ES. Doesn't have switch and unswitched power outlets in the back, but delivers great sound and picture quality. Overall it serves it purpose and will highly recommend it.
Summary: I just purchased a new Sony Bravia XBR 52in. LCD TV. I started doing research on receivers that have HDMI inputs, since everything is going to HDMI. I wanted a Sony because of its quality and reputation. I had a Sony 5.1 receiver before this one, and I loved it. I started going on the Sony website and looking at their ES line of receivers. I fell in love with them because of their video upscaling and also there number of HDMI inputs.
Summary: I highly recommend this receiver to anyone who plans on not purchasing another for quite some time. It is jam packed with all the latest formats for your digital components. It probably won't be outdated for another 10-15 years. I did my research and was familiar with the features of this unit, but I still cannot tell you how many times I have been taken back and said "WOW!, it does that too!?".
Summary: Picked this baby up for almost 50% off new with FREE SHIPPING!! I love this receiver. I upgraded from a very old RCA 5.1 system (bought it before next gen dvd's were talked about). When i started to migrate my dvd movies to HD-DVD's & BluRay's, I noticed that some of the movies only played in 2.1, then I realized that on some of the BluRays, my older receiver couldn't decode them.
Everything you'll need in a receiver and MUCH more
6 September 2008
Summary: This receiver has really too many features. That's never been a bad thing and you are really getting one of the best home theater receivers available. The main thing I was looking for in a receiver was 1080p up-conversion and HDMI pass through. This has PLENTY of HDMI ports and I can't imagine someone needing more than what's provided with this piece of hardware.
Summary: great features, price won't break the bank for Sony's top of the line receiver, bravia system links all other sony products. Easy to use and follow instructions. Many different ways to customize your system, supplied microphone automatically sets your speakers to your room.
Summary: This receiver exceded my expectations, particularly in the area of up-conversion. Non-HD satellite programming is MUCH clearer when viewed through the Sony receiver. Plenty of inputs for all my audio and video equipment, too. Manual leaves a bit to be desired for sorting out zone set-up, but that's my only ding.
Summary: Before i give my general review, a few disclaimers: I own a Sony 65" hi-def TV, a Sony PS3, and a Sony CX777ES 400 disc DVD changer, and was upgrading from an eight year old 895 Sony receiver. That said, I know that Sony is no longer a guaranteed great buy. Many of their products are mediocre, forcing you to buy the upper echelon of their range in order to get the features and quality they were once known to provide with each and every product that once happily rolled...
Summary: This unit is a replacement for a STR DA30ES(circa 1999), which has served me well without any repair problems. I hope this one does the same. That goes in the den now.... The unit has a great many features, one of which is up converting old analogue to 1080P resolution. This feature works so well, I am not sure I will buy a blu-ray unless DVD dies out altogether. It even makes analogue 480i cable look good! Digital channels look great!
