STR DA 2800ES Good sound but ...

Hav M., Crutchfield
23 October 2013
  • Summary: This is the second ES receiver I've owned. I got this one because I wanted 4k 3D pass through capability. The sound and THD is good, but I've had some issues with the receiver. A minor issue ... The receiver continues to report out of phase speakers while I know speakers are correctly phased. Second minor issue .... The trigger voltage is erratic on the dedicated subwoofer output ... Sometimes it's enough ... Sometimes it's not. Major issue....
  • Pros: 5 year warranty and Crutchfield unequalled customer support.
  • Cons: Poor Sony tech support. Silver lining is Crutchfield!

So many options. So little manual.

Scott, Crutchfield
6 October 2013
  • Summary: Where to begin...this literally does everything. The last receiver I bought was 9 years ago so this was a huge leap into all the new technologies and options. I was a bit overwhelmed with it all once I got the basic setup completed. I would definitely recommend, once you get the basic setup done, to just give Crutchfield a call and have them walk you thru a more refined setup for your needs.
  • Pros: Pass thru signals: allows your receiver to be off and it will pass thru the signal for the last input that was selected. Super nice when you don't want your receiver to be on for day-to-day TV watching. More options than I will ever be able to list here, and more than I will ever even use.
  • Cons: Pass thru: You have to turn on the receiver, switch inputs and turn it off again if you want to pass thru a different input. This makes sense and probably cannot be "fixed". This seems weird, but if you have more than 1 input that you don't necessarily want to always hear through the receiver it will take a minute to switch over.

Sold on Sony!

Chris R., Crutchfield
6 October 2013
  • Summary: Because of Onkyo's questionable HDMI boards, I looked around at other brands and kept coming back to Sony. And the 5-year warranty on the ES line was a big sell. There's a lot of features on this thing I'll probably never use but the 4K upconversion will be nice to have once I get an appropriate TV. I don't usually buy scratch and dent items(even from Crutchfield) but I'm sure glad I took the chance on this because the receiver arrived in perfect shape and I saved $150!
  • Pros: Very versatile receiver. Plenty of inputs and future-proofed with 4K technology. Sounds fantastic and I haven't even done the speaker calibration yet!
  • Cons: Had some difficulty assigning analog audio inputs.

Very Good Receiver

Dwight, Crutchfield
19 April 2013
  • Summary: This is over all a very good receiver. Price is a bit steep but as they say you get what you pay for. Hopefully anyway.
  • Pros: Very good sound. Zero loss in picture quality . 3D passes through perfectly. Plenty of bells and whistles.
  • Cons: My only gripe is that on my old Sony STR-DG 1100 when a program was in Dolby Digital 5.1 a blue light would light up. This one doesn't.

Fast 100%

Michael Lerner, Amazon
8 January 2014

  • Summary: Ich habe Sony STR-DA2800ES gekauft.

Plastikfront - Setzen, 6.

Kay, Amazon
27 May 2013
