Summary: I recieved my Sony 2400 ES and got it all connected and finally got the gui setup to work. It was a bear! I got it all working and configured the speakers for the optimum seating area. Next day I went to turn it on and it would not power up. I even unplugged it from the surge protector and connected it directly to the wall socket. I still would not turn on. I called Sony and I was told to disconnect everything that I had connected the night before and try it again. YUCK!
Summary: Having read the negative comments about this amp, I thought it was worth a punt considering the great price. I too got an amp that had a terrible hiss problem. When watching quiet movies, this was very bad. Glad to say that amazon give their usual good service in letting me return the amp although DHL were terrible in picking it up. Am now back to my 10 year old Yamaha surround amp which still sounds brilliant in comparison!
Summary: I bought this receiver to replace a Yamaha AX759SE as I was trying to simplify the operation of the various inputs by using HDMI. My first impression after running the auto setup was that the sound was muffled and lacked dynamics so I set about manually changing some of the settings. This slightly improved matters but still nothing like the sound quality I was used to even after using THX discs to try to correct.
Summary: I really would love to have given this 5 stars but my experience with this receiver has been a disastrous hassle and waste of my time that I'm afraid I can only manage one. Ordered from Amazon it arrived quickly. It's quite tricky to set up but, to cut a long story short, nothing I did would produce enough volume through the centre speaker so it was almost impossible to hear the dialogue (on any input).
Summary: I can't fault the sound and picture quality - when it's working! First of all, I could get no signal from my Apple TV box via HDMA - Sony support were no help at all but I found the solution online. Then I discovered the dreadful lip-sync problem caused by the difference in speed in processing video and audio. There is a built-in AV Sync facility but it is so badly implemented to make it virtually useless.
Summary: I recently purchased this reciever and was initially hapyy, but on connecting a Sky HD box disappointment set in. The early batches had a problem which was reported in a Hi-Fi mag, in that if you use an HDMI connetion which is not Full spec and use the optical output to listen to 5.1 sound, the amplifier gets confused and switches between 2 channel and 5.1 chanel.
