Sony STR DA5200ES With no video output and intermittent sound.
10 June 2013
Summary: This unit worked fine for a few days, then lost picture but still had sound. The picture and sound connections basically connects through this unit making it impossible to use when you loose the video output. There was also an annoying intermmittent crackling sound in audio when problem started. I got very disappointed and purchased another model STRDA5300ES, and so far has been working great.
Summary: This is a wonderful unit. Most of us will NEVER use all the features this unit has to offer. I have really good Polk speakers (5.1) with a sub woofer for my sound. I have my TV set up as the HDMI monitor (50-inch Pioneer Elite). I have three HDMI inputs to use: I have the receiver set up to my cable system to watch TV (HDMI). I have my blu-ray (Sony BDP-S5000ES) set up for movies (HDMI). I have my Roku set up for streaming movies (HDMI).
Summary: This is NOT an over priced receiver it is a very high end piece of equipment that can turn any room into a audio/ wonder land. I know that sounds a little corny but if you spent a minute listening to ANY of the ES line receivers installed properly you will know exactly what I amc speaking of. I have had many different high end receivers in the past 20yrs and the Sony ES lines have been bar none some of the best I have ever owned.
Summary: THIS THING DOES IT ALL. POWERFUL, GREAT VIDEO , ALL THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD NEGATIVES TO SAY MUST HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THEIR EQUIPMENT. I REALLY GOT A TREMENDOUS DEAL WITH THIS BABY. I COULDN'T BE HAPPIER. THANK YOU SONY....
Summary: I have had this receiver for 8 months or so and it sounded great but untill i hocked it up to a 52"sony xbr5 lcd using monster m series hdmi from ShopAllMonster.com cables i didnt know what i was missing,i'm using it with bose 6.1 speaker system and now i hear sounds in movies i had watched before that i didnt know were there, and now the HD cable box hocked up with hdmi looks alot better and the PS3 looks great as well,i'm upgrading to the str-da5300es soon and adding...
Summary: LIKES: Gobs of power. Lots of I/O versatility. Auto calibration feature makes rough setup very easy. Farouda processor chipset for very good upscaling performance (I use a 720P Optoma HD73 front projector projected to 120' diagonal). Styling fits nicely with my other Sony products. DISLIKES: Remote has too many buttions to figure out and remember (but, if you go to a unified remote like a Harmony 1000, you don't have to mess with it after the iniatal receiver setup).
Summary: When hooked up properly using high end HDMI cables as you would expect, IE: you don’t buy a Ferrari and put regular gas in it, The picture quality and celerity does not compare to anything on the market for home theater under $1500, The power in full digital mode keeps it cool while putting out so much power that if you don’t have the speakers to handle it you should look else ware, but on the other hand if you have the 7.2 surround sound setup like I do.
Summary: A vastly over-priced receiver that fails to deliver in almost every respect. This 33-pound behemoth's purported upscaling of component and HDMI video to near HD quality (720p, 1080i and 1080p), is a virtually worthless feature that produces negligible improvement in picture quality when activated. The graphic interface menu is needlessly complicated and some simple adjustments (e.g., center channel sound) are hidden deep inside, requiring up to 16 steps to access.
