Long Term Review

  • Summary: If you can pick this up for 50 bux or so you've gotten a pretty good deal.
  • Pros: Crazy to think i wrote the review: Anonymous 10/1/2007 10:57:14 AM It's 2014 now and I still haven't had a single problem. Very reliable Unfortunately my dog ate the remote back in 2008 or so. Still haven't replaced it.

So far, so good...

Zachary K., Newegg
3 June 2008
  • Summary: I read many reviews complaing that this thing runs hot, but mine does not get very warm at all. Maybee they are stacking things on top of the unit, or maybee they are not using good enough speeker cable, or maybee they are using the wrong kind of speekers..
  • Pros: Cheap, powerfull, 5.1 amp with three digital inputs...and it sounds good.
  • Cons: None Yet

Sherwood RD-6500

  • Summary: Bought this to replace a RCA RT2400R which took a hit in a lightning strike. Both of these units I consider to be the low end of stand alone 5.1 receivers so I was replacing like for like. Shipping was fast and unit was well packed and looks nice.

AV receiver

Travis, Amazon
14 May 2008
  • Summary: This is a wonderful piece of equipment. I easily have my entertainment center hooked up to it. Lots of nice features, some of them I have no clue as to what they are. With all the digital connections, my sound is superb through my speakers

Pretty good receiver

Cholla Bob, Amazon

  • Summary: I'm not a stereo hobbyist, but by my standards this receiver works great. On the downside it has many settings governed by a small number of buttons which aren't covered in the manual in any way I can understand. After some weeks I still don't understand many of them.

For stereo, this is a best budget buy

David A. Way, Amazon

  • Summary: Simple, powerful audio solution. I use mine with a 360 outputting 5.1 to the 6500. It downmixes the 5.1 to 2 channel and I have no complaints. For music, I use my laptop w/ winamp and the ogg-vorbis plug in to my Trends Audio UD-10 usb to coax converter into the 6500.

Just what I needed.

Coach in Cleveland, Amazon
4 May 2008
  • Summary: Novice - I needed a receiver that would consolidate multiple audio inputs and did not need to consolidate video inputs. This worked out well for me.

Umm... it works?

Kevin Tracy, Amazon
30 April 2008
  • Summary: I must admit, this is my first surround sound system. I can adjust the volume of my speakers individually with this... so I don't know what else to say about it. If you don't know anything about surround sound systems, then this works great for you. I'd only suggest having HD installed on it.

Great for the price,

R. Clark, Amazon
27 April 2008
  • Summary: My old receiver died and I needed a quick replacement. I thought I'd have to pay $300 or more to match its features but I was wrong. This is even better than my old RCA (passive cooling, no loud fan). Good for a starter or replacement. It has just about every connection you need.
