Good Receiver... Terrible App

Timbo, Amazon
23 June 2014
  • Summary: The receiver functions beautifully. The only missing feature would be the ability to rename different inputs (label them HDMI 1, 2, etc then give a different display name). Aside from this, the touted app is awful. I've tried every version for android and even after several updates it remains buggy. If you are purchasing this receiver specifically for the app support, you might want to find something else.

Purchased used, item arrived DOA

David Z. Smith "Breaker of Things", Amazon
3 April 2014
  • Summary: But Amazon's return service was outstanding! I couldn't find another used one in my price range so ended up 'upgrading' to a used VSX-1022 for a few dollars more and was very pleased with that. I'm sure this was a good product but since I don't know whether the product is fragile or I just had a bad experience, I can't give it very many stars.

  • Summary: It is advertised to be able to be controlled by an iDevice. I expected that without having to buy a BT adaptor. It should have been built in, not an add-on.

  • Summary: This is a great system with lots of great features. Loved using the microphone placed in the viewing area that calibrated all speaker volumes. Unfortunately Pandora is not working even though it is working on other devices in my home and other internet radio stations are working on the receiver. Been calling pioneer for two days and keep getting a busy signal.

  • Summary: Insanely fast delivery and ease of purchase in Walmart.com. Product has a lot of HDMI inputs which is great. Very nice looking. The problem is that the sound quality is not good. According to the directions, it is hooked up correctly to our 7.1 in ceiling surround, but the sound has to be turned all the way up to the max to get barely any of the "theater" sound. Could be operator error, you never know. Novices need not apply when hooking up this receiver.

Disappointing network capabilities

Peter J. Ewers, Amazon
18 November 2013
  • Summary: This unit might be great for a home theater system, but I bought it to provide music in our office because it could plug into our network. After a couple of weeks of tweaking it we now have it working adequately, but I only rated it a 3 for the following issues: 1. You have to have a TV connected to the unit if you want to use all the features. Pandora and internet radio only work with a TV screen (which we do not have).

Good receiver for the money

golfaz, Amazon
13 October 2013
  • Summary: Pros: Low cost, good quality Cons: Limited to only a single set of speakers, setup was a bit difficult. Met most of my needs. However, it would have been great if it had A & B speaker capabilities as I would like to use a set of remote wireless speakers on my patio without having to purchase a second receiver.

Good for the price, but AirPlay, network and zone 2 are not polished enough.

Neil Hart, Amazon
11 April 2013
  • Summary: This unit is good, but for the price. The feature set is rich, the build quality good and so forth. The output is no better or worse than other similarly priced units. The reason I bought it was for AirPlay, its network and Zone 2 abilities. Here it is okay, but feels like they did not complete the solution, especially related to the iPad software: - The iPad software can turn the unit off, but not turn it back on.

Sounds great, nice features but ...

Glenn, Amazon
6 April 2013
  • Summary: There are a lot of nice features and having all the HDMI ports is nice. It works great with one big exception (if you ask me)... Without the TV on, it is almost a brick. You basically have two choices for using this receiver. Turn your TV on and use the on screen menu system or use the smart phone app to control it. There are so many things you CANNOT do using the remote that having the remote at all is almost worthless.
