  • Summary: This receiver works only if you have hdmi`s. Very hard to set it up...you have no control over ipad/iphone...God forbit if you have RCA cable to setup...you have input but no signal will go to your tv with the hdmi output....acording to them, what goes in, need to go out....

  • Summary: Too complicated for me, and malfunctioned during setup (TV picture was going off and on most of the time). I had to use a magnifying glass to use the remote. The sound is good. No problem there, but very trying one one's nerves. Young people may not have a problem with it, but it's not for the golden years.

  • Summary: ordered for Christmas to replace a 40 year old Pioneer receiver. Very very disappointed in this system and will never buy another Pioneer, Seller is unresponsive on return. I had two audio men try to get this thing to work with no luck. They had just set up a large audio system but they couldn't help. avoid this unit and this seller.

HDMI Passthrough failure.

  • Summary: After 45 days the HDMI out no longer outputs a signal rendering the unit worthless. Of course, I can't exchange it with Amazon after 30 days so I guess I'll have to go through the manufacturer. This seems to be a known issue in audio forums. Buyer beware.

  • Summary: I bought this receiver just over a year ago, and would advise anyone who's tempted to buy it, to stay away. The Airplay feature and the HDMI inputs were the main selling points for me. Airplay was always spotty, with playback that would cut out often, no matter how close my phone was and irrespective of strength of wifi signal. The HDMI part totally died one day about 10 months in, and I tried everything to get it working again, including factory reset.

Failure to launch

  • Summary: Need to push volume to 60-70% of max to get some "talking" level sound volume (all inputs, including tuner). Not a speaker problem, as my old receiver with only half the output power of the Pioneer would reach the same volume level at only 10% of max. I tried tweaking a few things via Home Menu with no success. Also, sound was lacking bass and clarity. Probably a bad unit, but even apart from the obvious flaw of this one, I will not replace it with the same unit.

Major flaw with receiver and terrible customer service

  • Summary: I purchased the VSX-822 in April and was going to use it with my outdoor entertainment center. I received the product and had my local AV contractor install it about 2 months later after I purchased everything else I needed. Upon installation of the receiver we knew something was wrong. We couldn't get the video input or audio output to work so I called Pioneer customer service.
