Very disappointed in Pioneer receivers in general.

Pros: This unit has lots of connections and will probably be adequate for most home theatre systems.
Cons: Reliability with Pioneer receivers (in my experience) is awful. I will never buy one again. This one died on me after about 15 months. And I do mean died. Nothing, NADA, wouldn't even turn on. If you are shopping in this price range, I would suggest Yamaha receivers. They have superior sound, a s...
Summary: First one I ordered didn't work and sent it back. Second one did better for 6 months and then gradually all the HDMI connections didn't work. Switched over to RCA connectors instead and worked for about a month. Then the Ipod connection wouldn't work. And now the right channel has no sound.
Summary: This unit was great for the first full year. Then the HDMI inputs began to fail. I only have one working input now for HDMI. Going to use my extended warranty now. I recently purchased the 1022-k, hopefully that one works better... still got extended warranty on that as well.
Summary: I don't use the surround feature a lot but after owning this for a while, I noticed that one of the rear channels wasn't working properly. I could get it to work by tapping and shaking the connections in the back but something clearly wasn't working right.
Summary: Two years after purchasing the VSX-820, a circuit board failed. Repairs would have cost $230 so we recycled this product. I am not mourning the loss. I wasn't happy with the VSX-820 from the get-go anyway. Here's why: 1) No audio out for a TV.
Summary: I really liked this receiver! I used it for 1.5 years and the quality was always great. Then last Friday, during a thunder and lightning storm, the unit experienced a power surge and I could no longer use the HDMI components.
Summary: The receiver seems to have everything we were looking for, but the owner's manual is so poorly written (complex) that I don't have the setup optimized. Therefore, I cannot provide a true evaluation at this point. I need to hire a pro...an interpreter..
Summary: I purchased this receiver from Amazon last April. I have had no problems with it at all. The sound is really good and is an attractive unit as well. I'm happy with my purchase I reccomend the vsx 821k as it is the same receiver with some improvements for a little more
Summary: I have purchased Sony receivers for years. The Sony's always seemed to crap out after 7-8 years, so I decided to get a different brand. I read good things about the Pioneer receivers, so I purchased this one. Bad mistake.
Summary: I did not need the 7.1 or 6.1 and wanted HDMI switching capability as well as a B channel for exterior speakers. This amplifier was easy to set up (with self test microphone for adjusting speaker delays and loudness) and works well. Sound is clean and full from USB, tuner, DVD, and CD inputs.
