Summary: I've had this receiver for two years now and I can't wait to replace it. The Operating Instructions are worthless and the phone in help is condescending and obfuscatory. Just try hooking up a DVD player, TV, apple TV, VHS, or other device to the receiver. You try to follow the instructions. You find them incomplete. I'm still trying to get my DVD player to give me audio. No luck.
Second one that stopped working in less than 2 years
C. Hawkins, Amazon
12 August 2011
Summary: I purchased in 2009, the 1st unit I received stopped working in less than a month of purchasing. I contacted Amazon and they sent me a replacement quickly. Yesterday while watching TV the unit just powered down and would not come back on. The returned unit did the exact same thing. My thoughts are that this model is defective and I can not recommend this unit for use.
Summary: I bought the receiver (VSX-819H) in 2009. It was used occasionally on weekends. It was hooked up to a surge protector. After a year (2010), it quit working, no power. Returned it to Pioneer while it was still under warranty. They fixed the problem. A year later, 2011, same problem occurred, no power. It's not under warranty anymore, so probably not worth trying to fix, if the same problem is going to occur annually.
Summary: I bought two of these receivers. Within two months, the first remote began to have trouble. The volume controls and mute quit working. Within two more weeks, the other remote had the identical problem. The remotes are gently used in two different rooms by two different people. I am completely disappointed in the lack of quality in the remote. The receiver quality is average.
