Summary: A) stop playing audio after I change to a different hdmi input. I generally turn it off and on or replug the cable to fix this issue.
Pros: Very inexpensive, relative to other recievers that have a bunch of unnecessary features. Looks nice. Sounds good.
Cons: As a couple of other people have said here, after a few months it started to act up. It generally works fine for a couople hours after I turn it on, as long as I don't change inputs. However, it will sometimes:
Summary: So far this receiver is exceptional. It is very self explanatory to use and easy to set up. I love the USB port so I can just plug in my IPhone and listen to music at any time. I would recommend to a friend for sure!
Pros: It works, has all the connections i need. HDMI, RCA, Coax, etc. Quality build. Lots of settings. Programmable to Directv.
Cons: Loud clicking when powering on and off. not an electrical sound, more like a switch being flipped. takes a few seconds for the sound to begin. Was larger than the available space from my previous reciever, so had to remove everything for a new configuration.
Summary: I bought the Pioneer 522 K refurbished, I use it constantly and it works great. It powers two 140 Watt Yamaha NS cabinet speakers without a problem and easily accommodates every audio device. Pioneer quality at a bargain.
Summary: I had a hard time setting this receiver up. I've been tinkering with audio gear for 15+yrs. Took me 2+ hours to figure it out. It has limited stereo inputs (4) and very limited digital inputs, (1) coaxial and (1) optical. However it has (4) HDMI inputs. It has no "record out" outputs. The unit itself sounds good. I only use it to power a pair of Speakercraft Aim7 MT Three in-walls.
Good receiver, here is a trick for Roku / Chromecast if it does not work
7 August 2013
Summary: Bought this, had trouble with Roku audio over HDMI and Chromecast audio over HDMI, here is what fixed it for me and enabled sound on both devices with full surround support On the remote hit the auto/direct button and make sure AUTO SURROUND is selected On the remote it the auto parameter button on the remote and navigate by pressing up or down until CH1 is displayed, change it to CH2, if it's on CH2 it's good.
Summary: First, this review is about the Pioneer VSX-522 -- the string of reviews here contain a mixture of other Pioneer receivers, for which I have no knowledge, or for that matter, concern. I scanned each review specifically looking for information on the VSX-522 and didn't find anything of assistance. I spent three days attempting to set up this monster. I bought this to use in my basement, intentionally wanted a low end product to hook up SAT TV, Bluray and X-Box.
