Pros: Bought this from Newegg, seemed like a good deal at the time. Sounded decent for a while.
Cons: After about a year, it simply died one day. Was listening to a CD, the music stopped, the lights went out; it's been a brick since. Haven't had much luck finding someone to service it. Was looking online for a solution and came across a Audio/Visual forum site called avsforum.com. There are a num...
Summary: Pioneer customer service was no help, after some "troubleshooting" on the phone I was informed my devices aren't HDCP compliant (even though they are) and their receiver is not at fault.
Pros: Affordable Easy to setup Sound and video output quality is fairly good (when working at least, see below).
Cons: This model is plagued with HDMI handshaking issues, which is why I believe it was liquidated practically everywhere (picked mine up for $120 here on newegg). Out of my Comcast DVR, Sony Blueray player, Roku box, and an AMD HTPC, only the Roku box will correctly function using HDMI. The other devi...
Summary: Got the receiver in and the box looked fine, did not appear to have been damaged in shipping or anything. Hooked it up, set everything up and it was working fine. Used it for a few hours the first day with no problems, came home from work the next day went to turn it on and it was dead.
Pros: Easy setup, plenty of connections, price
Cons: died after 1 day, on screen menu does not work over hdmi..... why have a hdmi compatible received with an on screen menu that doesn't work with hdmi?
Summary: I purchased the Pioneer VSX-521 receiver in April 2011 to be used only for showing movies with a new projector, new blu-ray player, and new surround sound speakers. Nothing complicated. The receiver worked fine for eight months, then it died.
Summary: I purchased this receiver to replace a Yamaha that finally died on me. Unfortunately, this receiver does not recognize my Samsung television as being HDCP compliant. Video stops after about 5 seconds on any hdmi device. Still searching for a solution, but as a result, I cannot use the HDMI features.
Summary: This receiver consistently turns itself off after 2 hours even when we are using it. We wrote to Pioneer who suggested resetting it. We reset it, and it still does it. We wrote to Pioneer again and have not received ANY response.
