Pros: Bought this from Newegg, seemed like a good deal at the time. Sounded decent for a while.
Cons: After about a year, it simply died one day. Was listening to a CD, the music stopped, the lights went out; it's been a brick since. Haven't had much luck finding someone to service it. Was looking online for a solution and came across a Audio/Visual forum site called avsforum.com. There are a num...
Summary: Not thrilled about this at all. I get a fair amount of blinking on my TV when I have devices connected through the receiver to the TV (this happens with both my AppleTV and my Mac Mini). Even worse, it stopped receiving audio from my Mac Mini on one of the inputs.
Summary: I purchased the Pioneer VSX-521 receiver in April 2011 to be used only for showing movies with a new projector, new blu-ray player, and new surround sound speakers. Nothing complicated. The receiver worked fine for eight months, then it died.
Summary: Pioneer customer service was no help, after some "troubleshooting" on the phone I was informed my devices aren't HDCP compliant (even though they are) and their receiver is not at fault.
Pros: Affordable Easy to setup Sound and video output quality is fairly good (when working at least, see below).
Cons: This model is plagued with HDMI handshaking issues, which is why I believe it was liquidated practically everywhere (picked mine up for $120 here on newegg). Out of my Comcast DVR, Sony Blueray player, Roku box, and an AMD HTPC, only the Roku box will correctly function using HDMI. The other devi...
Summary: So, two months of putting up with a pitifully thin sound, hopelessly complex set up and slow response from turn on to sound, we find the 'overheat' message and turn itself off in less than ten seconds. Yes, it no longer functions.
Summary: I took mine out of the box and spent 1 1/2 hours hooking it up just the way I wanted. It worked for 20 minutes and died. Called Pioneer and they said it was a bad unit. Keep in mind, if yours were to die and is under warranty YOU have to pay to have this 20 pound machine shipped to the nearest...
Summary: Had the unit set up for one whole evening. Worked decently for television, but as soon as I turned the Xbox on and the volume got loud it would randomly power down. Worked with it for a day or so and searched some forums and found out that it is a common flaw.
