Summary: I've had this receiver for about a year now and it has delievered in spades! I have an Elite TV from 2005 so appearance wise it is a glorious match! I have my DirecTV dvr hooked up to it and it delivers great visual and audio signal, I also have a DVD player and internet connected as well, I've not had much luck with the accessing music websites as the DVR takes me right to Pandora.
Summary: Amazing!!!!!!!!! I had a very high end Yamaha receiver that was about six years old that I was replacing. I had paid over $1,500.00 for the Yamaha. I was reluctant to purchase the VSX-31 as I only paid about $450.00 on it on sale. I worried how it would stack up to the much more costly but older Yamaha. I was blown away the sound! The sound was cleaner and more powerful. The directions were fantastic! I got the receiver hooked up easily. The 3-D pass through works well.
Summary: NICE RECEIVER. I INITIALLY BOUGHT THE VSX-30 AT BEST BUY FOR ALMOST $600. IT IS A NICE RECEIVER BUT IS LIMITED IN ITS MULTIZONE CAPABILITIES. FOR EXAMPLE, YOU CANNOT PLAY IPOD OR INTERNET RADIO TO ZONE 2. THE VSX-31 CORRECTS THIS, ALLOWING YOU TO PLAY YOUR IPOD MUSIC OUT TO THE POOL IN THE BACKYARD WHILE WATCHING TV INSIDE. I ALSO PAID ABOUT $100 LESS ON AMAZON THAN I DID FOR THE INFERIOR RECEIVER AT BESY BUY. WHAT A DEAL!! VERY NICE MID LEVEL RECEIVER AT A GREAT PRICE.
Summary: Incredibly highly functional receiver for a great price. I originally was looking at the VSX-30 but then after I learned you can play iPod to Zone 2 I went with this one. A couple of words of caution, which is why this receiver gets four instead of five stars: - I upgraded my existing receiver because I needed more HDMI inputs and wanted to have a second zone, i.e., I wanted to install patio speakers.
Summary: I bought this unit to be able to switch between multiple HDMI inputs more than my TV has available and that part of the unit works well - but the remote control, and set up, and multiple layers of stuff to wade through to chnage minor settings was too too much for me - I took this unit back and bought a far superior Yamaha HTR-4064. For example - try and switch from Speaker A to speaker B for the front speakers.
Summary: In short, works great if all you need is to hook up few A/V devices via HDMI. However, I hit limitations very fast. Two things that I simply can't get to work: 1) If TV is off when receiver is turned on, there is no sound output to speakers. Why would somebody have TV off? For example, if you want to listen radio (via built-in tuner), or if you have some audio-only device connected to it (say, CD-player).
Summary: This reciever is by far the best reciever I have ever purchased. The video upscaling is absolutely phenomenal, this reciever is hooked up to a samsung LED 42 inch 6000 series tv. As most of you know the picture on a LED screen is already great, but when playing my blue ray player running through the reciever there was absolutely no blur on fast moving scenes. The reciever took the visual to another level even with the LED screen.
