  • Summary: Although discontinued, this family of receivers are fantastic. It comes with a microphone on a 25' cord- You position the microphone where you sit and tell the unit to calibrate to the acoustics of the room. It takes about 3 minutes to calibrate my theater consisting of 9 speakers. No need to hire an audio technician every time you change the room, carpets, or drapes. It easily powers my speaker system, handles all of my video and audio inputs, and two sub-woofers (7.2).

Pioneer avrs have some major hdmi issues.

bigearz, Amazon
6 April 2014
  • Summary: Hello I purchased a vsx 1121k in dec of 2012. I admit it was the best avr I had ever purchased. At about the second year, the hdmi out started going crazy. I regret after discussing with many repair people that the hdmi board in all pioneer avrs are flaky and widely known for hdmi failures. This wouldn't be that bad if the replacement board is $400 plus just for the board. Add labor and you might as well purchase a brand with quality parts inside.

Great receiver!

Rob Csenar, Amazon
6 February 2014
  • Summary: From day one, the Pioneer VSX-1121 has exceeded my expectations. The price point was well below the Elite series, but the functionality is right up there with the big boys. Highly recommended.

Would be better if WiFi were built in

T.W., Amazon
8 January 2014
  • Summary: I have had this receiver for nearly two years now, and love the way it operates, for the most part. It outputs clean, loud sound, and the various settings for surround sound are easily switched between and create the desired effects. I have it set up as a 7.1 channel surround sound, with one 12" powered sub-woofer (it is possible to set up with two).

absolutely terrible unit

TNVol, Amazon
18 December 2013
  • Summary: intermittent HDCP errors although all of my a/v components are compliant. as of two days ago, the unit won't recognize any HDMI connections or speakers. I've had the unit for 2yrs, and of course it's out of warranty, so pioneer won't do anything to assist - they basically blamed other components for the handshake errors. never buying pioneer products again. terrible longevity, terrible customer service.

OK for anything but Internet radio

Loren, Amazon
16 December 2013
  • Summary: I really like this receiver, but I wanted to use it to listen to Internet radio. Unfortunately, its Internet radio depends on a site called pioneer.vtuner.com, which is often down or misbehaving. Do not buy a Pioneer receiver for Internet radio or you will be sorely disappointed. Update 2/7/14: The receiver now will not display anything in the "added stations" list and the Favorites list is months out of date. It refuses to display the current list of stations.

Stay Away!!!

Marcos Cortez "Pocho Dog", Amazon
2 October 2013
  • Summary: Bought this in December of 2011, it just died! This is first receiver out of five to ever stop working, what a shame. I still have an old Yamaha from the early 90's. They don't make receivers like they used too. I'm done with Pioneer, my last receiver before this one had issues as well, the connectors started to break off for no reason. The sad part about this receiver is that I never even ran it as hard as my other ones, what a waste of $$$.

Very disappointed!!

sarandipt, Amazon

  • Summary: We loved our Pioneer VSX-921-K, so when it came time to get a receiver with HDMI capabilities, we got the VSX-1121-K. As other reviewers have stated, it's a great device... when it works. I'll let you read other reviews to find out the positive side of this unit, but I'm here to vent... This unit died at 19 months of age. If you noticed, that's 7 months after the measly 1-year warranty expires.
