Summary: Some others have written that this occurred for them too. It just started happening to me. I've had it about a year and one half. I have no idea why. It's not running hot, just about every ten min. turn on and off.
Summary: DO NOT BUY PIONEER RECEIVERS. While I was surfing the WEB for answers I found hundreds of other people with the same problem as me an mostof them are a varity of other Pioneer models, EVEN THE ELITES.
Pros: Lots of HDMI inputs, Iphone control
Cons: After one year, Not even one month after warranty ran out, the receiver started power cycling. Took it to a Pioneer repair shop and they could not find any thing wrong.
Summary: I bought this receiver back in September of 2011 from Amazon and the unit arrived on time as ususal (love Amazon!)and worked flawlessly. I can't fault the features and quality of the VSX -1020. It worked as expected out of the box and provided a lot of features and excellent sound and video reproduction. Ten months later without warning while watching a great movie the receiver died. I checked all connections and settings but the receiver simply would not power back up.
Summary: I've owned this receiver for just over a year and it has already stopped working. What a piece of #%?\! A few days ago it started shutting off by itself when it wasn't even hot. I unplugged all of the wires and reconnected everything and it seemed fine for the next few hours but then it started doing it again. Now it won't even power on. It try's to but the front screen is all scrambled and then shuts back down.
Summary: I enjoyed the product while it worked, and never thought I would be one of the One Star reviewers that I read about here before making my purchase! There are still more 4-5 Star Reviews, but it will be interesting to see if that changes as people reach the one year mark as we One Star reviewers have experienced. I have owned many other A/V components and have never had one stop working in such a short period of time.
Pros: Great Sound, loved it while it worked.
Cons: Subwoofer output failed 13 months after the purchse and HDMI Output failed 18 months after purchase.
Trash that should have never left the designers desk.

Summary: This is a pioneer turkey, designed to make pioneer lots of money selling overpriced HDMI boards. Everything is run through that board which fails often rendering your receiver into a paper weight.
Summary: It was a cool receiver for the 3 days it worked. It has quite a few features I likes such as built in ipod support with direct control through the GUI. I was also interested in the network port but it broke before I got a chance to set it up. It doesn't have an audio return channel so you have to run a toslink back from your tv. the remote is terrible. It has a million tiny little buttons. the included ipod cable looks tacky.
Summary: Do not trust the reviews for this product. I bought the vsx 1020-k last year and thought it was wonderful until just after the warranty was over, only one year, which is the shortest compared to other recievers in this price range.
Pros: good sound when it worked
Cons: HDMI is faulty, and causes the unit to sporadically cut off and on and freeze up
Summary: I had this receiver maybe 6 months and it stopped working. Audio worked but it would not deliver any video (tried multiple devices). I called Pioneer and they WOULD NOT honor their 1 year guarantee. Pioneer support was very unfriendly and basically hung up on me. Avoid Pioneer products at all cost. I got a Denon with Airplay :) Unbelievably Amazon DID help me. Amazon provided great customer support and took the unit back and provided a full cash refund.
Poor product that lasts only 12 months and 8 days.

Summary: It is good receiver when it works. However, after almost exact one year when the factory warranty expired, it stopped working. The receiver automatically shuts down whenever the signal is put through. A $360 mistake.
