New speakers or new receiver- choise a new receiver, in this class
14 October 2013
Summary: This receiver will exceed all of your expectations. Both my tv and speakers have improved 50 fold. Everyone who has heard my prior hook up are amazed how the new receiver sounds even better than the old. Great buy!
Summary: Sound is fantastic (natural / warm) and always cool to the touch..The remote is thin and the buttons are very small. It easily falls from your hand. My wife and I are always hitting the wrong button. Thus, you spend 5 to 8 min, looking through the owners manual, to return the system back to our settings. I have a background in audio / studio installs. I rate it 8 out of 10. I have seen people spend 5- 8 K on a receiver and not sound near as good.
Summary: Just hooked - up this receiver. Replaced a Denon 2312ci which was decent but does not compare with the sound quality of the SC 55. Where there was a significant price difference originally, I have found the 55 price to be very good at this point. You have a lot of flexibility to "tweak" your sound preferences with this unit. I have mine set up with an emphasis on the surround rear speakers so they may be noticed.
Summary: The receiver is full-featured to say the least. It is probably too much machine for most people who are not audiophiles because it is complicated to set-up and operate. But if you are an audiophile, this is certainly the receiver for you.
Summary: After my Onkyo TX-SR606 literally caught on fire, I was stuck between a rock and a hard place. Best Buy had sold me on the GeekSquad warranty, (which I have never purchased in the past), and wound up taking three weeks to service my reciever. After three painful weeks of not being able to service the Onkyo, they told me that they would replace it with a comparable model.
Summary: I purchased my SC-55 about 3 months ago. Setup was easy. The MCACC worked great except the sound was a bit bright so I went in and flattened the equalizer for each speaker. After I did that, the sound was perfect with very balanced sound and not too harsh on the ears. And as mentioned before here, I also needed to change all speakers to "small" since my subwoofer did fine for bass. Over this past weekend, I lost all sound and video from the receiver.
Summary: BUY THIS RECEIVER! If you want ungodly sound and complete control! Just got this receiver on Friday 6/15/2012 and started setting it up immediately! Got everything up in about an hour. Using the mccac automatic set up it was a breeze. I have a 7.1 setup and it took about 15 minutes to get everything up and calibrated. I have Polk LSI 15 right and left. Center channel is CS20. Back left and right is TSI 200. back rear is OWM 3. Polk Audio PSW 505 subwoofer.
Summary: i bought this reciever paid 1200.00 buck for it had it for 10 days. it died on the 11 day and would not restart.call pioneer customer service told them i had 2 blinking blue lights and they wanted no part of explaining what the problem was .they said send it back to where you bought it.just like they new they made a lemon reciever and said to bad sell them anyway.the reason im telling you this is because i send it back to where i bought it and they send me another brand...

Summary: Received my SC-55 after a LOT of research. Bounced back and forth between Denon high end ($3,000) model and this one. I had an Elite 94 a couple years ago and loved it. This one appears to be nearly identical except for a few connections on the back and this one appears to have a few updates--ESPECIALLY the setup menu on the TV. Everything works fantastic. I would've gotten a sc-57 had ANYBODY at the time had them in stock.
