Summary: Lots of good reviews for this receiver - can't say I share the experience As a audio receiver, the Pioneer drives my HNT system very well (NHT 2.5is in front driven by an ADCOM 5500, Super Zeros in back, Center Channel 1 and Sub2i). Alas, as a home theater receiver, I'm about to replace it. I picked the receiver up at a local big box store, at the same time I got Samsung's 55" UN55F7100. The two haven't played nicely since I brought them home.
Summary: this unit sounds good but is too complicated to use and remote has too many buttons and they are too small..the feature set is good. this unit replaced an onkyo 595 that sounded great and only took a couple of clicks to get any mode or device going but didnt have network and cellphone connectivity.
Summary: it's just what i hoped it would be. it did everything i wanted it to do. all from amazon i ordered the receiver, pioneer bdp 62fd 3d blue ray, epson 3020e projector, fluance sx series speakers and an elite spectrum series 110" screen. this is a wow experiance. a true cinema feeling.

Summary: I was in the market for a receiver after my 1021k went belly up on me a few weeks ago. My experience with the 1021k was just ok, and after that one failed I had no desire to go back to pioneer. Not only was I a little frustrated that it quit on me moments after the warranty was up, and quite spectacularly i might add, complete with sparks and smoke, but i wasn't crazy about the interface and navigation of it.
Summary: We researched this a great deal before buying this model. Reviews said it was complicated to set up and they weren't kidding. We have it working basically, but may need to hire an expert to fine tune the set up for everything we want it to do. We're not generally stupid and are pretty tech savvy, but this receiver (maybe the documentation is partly to blame) makes us feel stupid. This is our third Pioneer receiver.
Summary: My recently purchased VSX-70 is replacing a Pioneer VSX-1019k. They are very similar in capabilities. It was interesting that the 1019 remote worked perfectly with the new VSX-70 except, of course, for the many new features on the -70. The one thing that is notably different is that the -70 runs very cool. My 1019 would get hot to the touch on the top. So much so that I didn't want to stack any other component on top of it.
Summary: If you don't own this, you are missing everything. This bad boy does it all and does all well. Masterfully controls all your electronics flawlessly. Easy to set-up and use. Great value as expected from Pioneer.
Summary: So I managed to snag this receiver for under $500 at Best Buy. This normally sells for $700, but was on sale for the week in the Magnolia section. This is replacing a bad Onkyo TX-NR609. I truly believed in Onkyo's products, but for some odd reason, lately, they have been making poor choices in materials to make a cheaper product. My Onkyo failed in 2 years of ownership. They did provide repair coverage for my unit, but I am moving on to a better brand, i think.
