Fantastic unit as long as it doesn't break

Nicholas and Zarya Fogelson, Amazon
14 November 2014
  • Summary: My wife and I bought this unit to run our home theatre system 2 years ago and have been extremely happy with it, with one caveat. The VSX-53 is in the Elite line of Pioneer Amplifiers, which is their higher end line meant more for audiophiles and video enthusiasts. Its performance lives up to that reputation entirely. The unit is a standard large size AV system unit. You need a deep AV cabinet with a double height bay to fit this unit.

Sounds great, HDMI inputs unreliable.

JB, Amazon
13 September 2014
  • Summary: I've been a Pioneer fan for many years and have had a wide range of all their products. When I see the word "Elite" I expect a little more. After 2.5 years 3 of the HDMI inputs don't work. 2 on the back which I've never even used don't work and the one on the front panel which I used a total of 3 times now no longer works.

This receiver is awful

David A. Graham "Dudger", Amazon
20 March 2014
  • Summary: continuous quality issues since the day I bought to it, and now it finally crashed and burned because of an automatic 'fix' that Pioneer had it download from the web, and which completely screwed it up. Pioneer now have the bare faced gall to suggest that I need to pay them to have it fixed since it is now out of warranty - even though they broke it !!! Stay away from this receiver, and from Pioneer !!!!

Do yourself a favor and do not buy this receiver at any cost

Scott Goldstone, Amazon
5 December 2013
  • Summary: I owned this receiver for about 6-7 months and it has been incredibly frustrating, here’s my story: First off, I purchased it from Best Buy with an extended service plan so I have not run into any of the issues of non-warranty from Amazon. Probably not coincidentally, Best Buy no longer carries this model but does carry the VSX-43 on the lower end and the VSX-70 on the higher end.

Awesome Receiver!!!

Pesqually, Amazon
27 November 2013
  • Summary: Amazing receiver!!! Does it all and more. I am running Klipsch KLF 30's for fronts, KLF 20's for rears, and a KLF C7 center with a M&K MX-350 Sub. The Vsx-53 handles this setup and then some. It also delivers awesome picture quality to my Panasonic Viera 3D Plasma tv. Buy it you won't be disappointed.

  • Summary: Great sounding receiver that works great with an iPhone or iPad. The iPad app is perfect for controlling the unit and much easier to use than the remote.

Complicated as a love affair, but worth it.

fudney, Ebay

  • Summary: This is my first new receiver in many years and oh my how things have changed. My old receiver is a Carver 5.1. This receiver is somewhat complicated to get up and running and then to use regularly, but it gives you great sound for the effort. To be honest there is a simpler setup, but why do that when you can have fun with the advanced setup. I never tried the basic setup method so it may have been a lot easier.
