Summary: My wife and I bought this unit to run our home theatre system 2 years ago and have been extremely happy with it, with one caveat. The VSX-53 is in the Elite line of Pioneer Amplifiers, which is their higher end line meant more for audiophiles and video enthusiasts.

Summary: I owned this receiver for about 6-7 months and it has been incredibly frustrating, here’s my story: First off, I purchased it from Best Buy with an extended service plan so I have not run into any of the issues of non-warranty from Amazon.
Summary: This unit was determined to be defective by Pioneer. When asked about filing a warranty claim, Pioneer indicated that Amazon was not an authorized reseller or Pioneer Elite equipment. Further research has lead us to the fulfillment company Crawfords Superstore. They have been less than helpful.
Summary: This is my first new receiver in many years and oh my how things have changed. My old receiver is a Carver 5.1. This receiver is somewhat complicated to get up and running and then to use regularly, but it gives you great sound for the effort.

Summary: All Pioneer receivers from this year are defective. After a few years you will get error code "UE22" and the receiver will eventually produce no sound. Pioneer will not help you and the board is no longer available. DO NOT BUY THIS RECEIVER

Summary: awesome receiver-sounds much better than my previous Onkyo TX-SR-875 . my tv/movies/games have never sounded so good, especially the surround speakers. generates much less heat than the onkyo (this matters if you have it inside a cabinet). On screen menu easy to figure out.
Summary: continuous quality issues since the day I bought to it, and now it finally crashed and burned because of an automatic 'fix' that Pioneer had it download from the web, and which completely screwed it up.
