Summary: Great Receiver Until The 25 Cent Display Diode Blows-Then You Must Locate a Qualified Onkyo Repair Electronics Shop That Will Replace It With an UpGraded Part. I just sent mine out Advanced Audio Service, Inc. in Litchfield, Ct. all the way from Alaska. That was [...] bucks with insurance, and that's just One Way! Luckily I bought my receiver for a real good price & it was less than year old.
Summary: Excellent unit...excellent sound reproduction. The unit has a 1080p upconversion for your Plasma TV. I deem it a great buy, and very feature rich. I am no amplifier geek, but I can tell you that I have connected a lot of equipment to this unit and it functions very well. Disadvantages: 1) High heat output. 2) When connecting the video output to the TV, there is a time delay in getting the video signal to the TV when the system turns on. 3) The unit is heavy.
Summary: I have used my TX-SR875 for about seven months and have been very happy with the performance. I was concerned about the heat and have been using an external fan to create some additional cooling. However, the front panel LED display has failed completely with no warning. Web searches have revealed that this is a common problem. I am fortunate enough to have an authorized service center within a reasonable drive and it is covered under warranty.
Summary: The price and feature set makes this an excellent choice. Yes, it runs hot but not near as hot as others have experienced. I have it in a cabinet with an open front and back but no more than an 1.5 inches of clearance on the sides and top.
Summary: Installation went smooth and once up and running it has worked great. I have my Wii, PS3, IPOD, and Time Warner cable box connected. Receiver does run hot but if you leave space above it will be fine. Overall a great receiver for the price.
Summary: Well let me start this by saying that I am an extremely picky person when it comes to home audio. I have gone through a lot of different units in an atempt to find the perfect one. Before settling on the 875, I was in the world of separates, but unfortunately the Outlaw processor I had did not have HDMI inputs and of course did not have the ability to decode the latest and greatest hi def audio.
Summary: I bought the TX-SR875 to replace a Denon AVR-5700 which was their top of the line 7-8 years ago. Although CE products are always dropping in price I wasn't sure that this receiver could replace the Denon although it had the Reon chip. I was wrong. At half the retail price of the Denon this thing is great. I didn't give it 5 stars mainly because the remote is good, but not great. PRO: Great amplifier-Sounds better than my Denon. Lots of current capabilities.
Summary: Outstanding overall, but if one connects all video components with a single HDMI cable to the TV, then there are no individual adjustment for each source! This is a deficiency that needed to be addressed since each video source needs individual corrections to contrast, tint, etc
Excerpt: For the price this is an excellent AV receiver. Many connections and great as a hub for any Home Cinema set up. Easy to install, features its own speaker set up microphone which detects your speakers and works out the distance from the listening position itself. It can upscale any analogue video signal to HD and the picture quality is marvelous - SD DVDs look great so no need to buy replacement Blu-Rays !
