Summary: I was very happy with this unit for the first 3 years(1 year past warranty). No typical problems with HDMI failures, it does run warm. Upconversion to 1080P works fine, does everything its supposed to. However, noticably missing are the Burr-Brown 24/192 DACs, which ONKYO has since corrected in later models. Now, I have this very loud, very annoying feedback/squelch when turning the unit on. I sent it out for repair Sep 2011 ($25) and got it back 12/28.
Summary: This is just a poor quality receiver. While the price and feature set were attractive at the time of purchase, I would not consider purchasing another piece of Onkyo audio or video equipment. In my opinion, the price and feature set were achieved by using substandard components and shoddy engineering. (This is despite the THX certification...what bunk) I have two units that are about a year old. Each of the units has been returned to Fry's multiple times.
Summary: i was really looking forward to get this receiver but it seems that majority of 806 series have this problem. when you play native 1080p content you get blue dots on the dark parts of the picture and when you pause they flicker! it doesnt happen when u switch the feed to anything lower then 1080p and then use upconvert but it kinda beats the whole purpose!
