Summary: *Note* This is an older generation product. Just reviewing now because I forgot... First Impressions: Like all high wattage AV receivers, its big and imposing. For those of small or petite frame, you'll want two people to handle this.
Summary: I upgraded from a yamaha/energy home theatre "bulk buy" deal, which was ok for $1,000, but after upgrading my speakers to B&Ws, a new home theatre amp was required. After looking around for at least 6 months, I settled on the Onkyo 805.
Summary: I bought this Onkyo receiver to replace an older Onkyo (the TX-DS787) receiver - mainly for the HDMI-connectivity and switching. I have to say - I am wowed by the ease, simplicity and efficiency of this receiver.
Summary: Featuring a true 130 watts per channel with all 7 channels driven you can't buy a better receiver. With a $30 discount I got my first 805 brand new for $639 & change. I researched the Onkyo 875 & couldn't justify spending another $360 for a USB port & 10 more watts per channel.
Summary: I replaced an aging Denon receiver with an Tx-SR805. I have waited for HDMI 1.3 for almost a year. I expected to pay more, probably another Denon or Pioneer Elite. When this became avaiable I listened to it at Fry's and checked the features, I concluded that it had everyting I wanted in a receiver.
Summary: This is an excellent product, especially for the price. High quality all around, amazing features, and extraordinary performance. Everything works as expected and the phone and online support from Onkyo is exceptional.
