Summary: OWNED IT FOR 6 YEARS AND IT WORKS FLAWLESSLY! Life is simple so don't let simpletons discourage you here. This is a great receiver, I am only looking for something new because of 3D. Setup is easy sound is awesome. This was my first Onkyo, it made such an impression, I don't waste my time looking at other brands.
Summary: Just got the Onkyo TX-SR803B for Christmas to replace (actually) send my older Onkyo SR-727 to the Master Bedroom. Did a lot of research into this unit and as before, though I would have loved to and could afford to buy the next two "upper end" Onkyo units, I did not see a need to spend the extra money. The TX-SR803B does about the same as the other two, but has a few less bells and whistles.
Summary: i HAVE THIS RECEIVER FOR ONE YEAR AND PERFORMS PERFECT. IF YOU GUYS READ THE DIRECTIONS IT WILL TELL YOU TO CHOSE 6 OHMS BECAUSE THE FREQENCY WOULD BE 6 OHMS-16 OHMS. DO NOT SET AT 4 OHMS, JUST USE THE 6 OHM SETTING AND THE RECIVER WILL AUTO PICK UP THE 8 OHM SPEAKER. tHIS RECEIVER IS AWESOME IF YOU FOLLOW DIRECTIONS.
Summary: This is a good moderately-priced receiver. I'm really picky about electronics, so this review is for other folks who are also very picky. Good: lots of power, auto speaker configuration, video switching (with some limitations), ability to map different digital inputs to various video inputs, pure audio mode, intelligent input information Annoyances: The on-screen display is kind of retro (it's text-based and very simple).
This reciever did more than I thought. THX is unbelievable

Summary: I didn't have any of the issues the people below had. I am running it to 7.1 Athena Audition speakers. This blows away the Sony I previously had. The onscreen settings worked perfect. I hve a Sony DVD HDMI upvert player and it connected instantly.
Summary: Love the receiver. Easy to use and auto speaker set up is great. I did have a problem with the initial set up, but I called Onkyo and they helped me reset the unit (very easy). The HDMI setting wouldn't show the picture until I did the reset. It worked perfectly seconds after doing the reset. Highly recommend this unit.
Summary: I was on the market for a budget receiver, but I still wanted it to have many features and HDMI connections was a must for me. This baby has 2 HDMI in and 1 out, wich is just what I needed. The set up of the speakers is very easy and fast but the connections are not. The manual is kind of confusing. Looks easy the first time you read it but then you realize that you can't follow exactly the instructions.
Summary: I researched receivers for about 6 months before deciding on this one. 7.1 surround with thx and 2 hdmi inputs (one for hd and one for dvd) were everything I was looking for. However, I set everything up, ordered a new set of Athena MK II's (which are awesome and super affordable speakers) and a new Projector and thought everything would work out great.
Summary: I just received my new TX-SR803silver and after hooking it up and doing the automated speaker set up discovered it's microphone wouldn't pick up all my speakers in a 16' x 20' room and even worse no sound from the subwoofer. Next I couldn't get the receiver and the SciAtl 8300 cable box to make the HDMI HDCP handshake, (not the receiver's fault from what I've found out).
