Summary: The system is great. Good sound. I have it hooked up to : 1. DLP Samsung 62 inch 2. Xbox 360 with component cables. I use this as my DVD player as well. No issues with it. 3. Comcast DVR box. No issues. 4. Nintendo Wii. No issues. 5. 5.1 Polk Audio speakers ( 8 ohm ), yamaha powered sub and no issues. -Music sounds great, many different modes to choose from.
Summary: I just bought this unit to replace a 6 year old sony. I am using this in a 5.1 set up since I don't have the additional two spearkers. The unit was easy to set up right out of the box. I like that it allows me to connect every video source I have to it and then send the signal by way of a hdmi cable to my 42 inch plasma. The book can be a little hard to read at times and it takes time to sort things out.
Summary: I purchased the Onkyo TX-SR706 for Christmas. The main selling point for me was the HDMI inputs. I have it hooked up to a Paradigm 7.1 speaker system. The auto speaker calibration worked perfectly for me. I have but one problem however - when I switch to my DIRECTV HD satellite, the audio seems to have a problem. I get a low humming from my subwoofer that requires me to turn the subs volume down to zero to eliminate the "feedback".
Summary: Sound quality very good. Set up a little confusing, almost too many options. Use of supplied calibration microphone is very useful in solving set up problems. Hooking a new high definition TV and cable box to the SR7006 via HDMI cables is very easy, but there is a strange difference between analog and digital TV channels.
Packed with features; some issues on the video front

Summary: There are lots of reviews available out there on the 706. Many reviews claim issues with the Audyssey mic and setup process not working - luckily I had no such trouble; setup was breeze and I am very pleased with the sound quality. The setup includes this receiver, two Polk Audio R50s front, two Polk Audio R15s surround, a cheap Infinity center (needs upgrade) and a Polk Audio PSW303 subwoofer.
