    in and out of service center (over an hour away)...they couldn't replicate the problem so they couldn't fix it. turns out it's a known issue between the onkyo unit (and others) and my samsung tv making it unable to pass video signal via hdmi. the failure of the unit is one thing, but their inability to provide customer service to fix it means i'll never buy another onkyo product. such a shame.     I've had pioneer equipment for ever but in the last 3 years have had nothing but them blowing up.I decided to change brands and this system had basically everything I was looking for especially in all stero mode.I have all JBL 2-e50's 2-e90's 2-e100's and a center and with the sub going beyond 8+ decb it kicks yet still has more to give. Reccomend a small cooling fan on top,still havent hit top volume yet it rocks!!!!!!! Read more

    I bought the SR706 because I had a very specific set of needs: 1) Upgrade to surround (and a remote!); 2) Keep a phono input for my turntable; 3) HDMI video connectivity; and 4) Affordable. This Onkyo fit the bill perfectly. The sound quality is excellent. Four HDMI inputs were more than I expected to find for the price I paid. One note to those using HDMI for both video and audio: the default setting has HDMI audio disabled! Read more

    Sound quality is very nice and sound stages are simple and easy to understand; have owned yamaha and way too many sound stages and hard to identify differences. I have video set to pass through the receiver at its original format but picture is choppy sometimes and some pixelation occurs. This does not occur when i go straight from my dish box to tv so i know it is the receiver. Read more

    I love this reciever!! I still can't believe I got this thing for [$]!The reciever was a breeze to set up and matched up with my 52" Samsung lcd, Samsung bluray player and Bose sat. speakers perfectly. I bought this to replace my 10 year old Onkyo reciever (which still works fine) I love Onkyo I always thought they gave you alot of bang for your buck, and to get this at your price was a no brainer!! I would highly reconmend both the reciever and B&H. Read more

    We have sound when switching to dvd and foxtel but no picture. The foxtel is connected via a scart cable and the dvd is part of the PS3 connected via a HDMI cable. The games on the PS3 work fine.

  • Onkyo TX-Sr 706 HDMI

    With the Onkyo TX-SE 706 will I need to use Opitcal cables for the audio from my PS3, or do all the HDMI plugs carry the audio. I have a 506 now and need the optical to carry sound for plugs # 1-2 or 3.
