Summary: Bought this off of Amazon warehouse as a surprise and set it up myself (hubby was on active duty overseas). During the first week or so, had problems with the unit in that it seemed to intermittently fail to pass the video signal through from my DVD player to the TV. Sometimes I could get it to resolve by turning the unit on and off, or by changing the input to something else, and then back to BD/DVD.
Summary: I understand the problem I'm facing with this system is a problem with a lot of theater systems, called the "HDMI Handshake". But nonetheless, I didn't know about when I purchased the system, and my TV is wall-mounted with a permanent configuration so I have to use HDMI,not component cabling.
Summary: I bought this product in July 2010 by September 2010 the HDMI output had completely went out. Onkyo honored their warranty but I had to drive 1 hour north in order to ensure it was delivered properly, not to mention they do not cover shipping. After close to 2 months I was able to pick my receiver back up. Now it is less than 1 year later and the HDMI input is completely out. Im sure they will cover this with the same standards as before.
Summary: Purchased my Onkyo August 1 2010. Within 3 months the unit failed as no audio or video would pass through the unit. Shipped it in for service as Onkyo specified (double boxed and insured), which cost me $75! Returned about 3 weeks later. The unit has failed a second time in less than a year. I understand components can fail but it should have been fixed for good the first time.
Summary: I bought this used from amazon warehouse for a great price. All the hdmi video pass through worked but no audio. checked all the setting verified the speakers worked tried using every input both analog and digital and still only video. reset to factory setting twice so im returning it. Disappointing because it seems like a great unit great features and price. Really wished it worked.
Product was great for 2 days and then amp went out.

Summary: This product has all the bells and whistles and worked great for 2 days. After that the amp in zone 1 broke and nothing worked (HDMI/analog inputs/composite, etc). The only thing that still worked was zone 2. I returned this product to Amazon for a refund. I am going to give this product another shot, but I will try to buy elsewhere and hope that I just got a bad unit by chance. It was highly recommended to me by an A/V company that uses the product everyday.
Summary: Beware Onkyo units fail at a high rate for the HDMI board (Google it). Mine failed after a few months, and Onkyo has been less than helpful in getting it repaired. An expensive investment like this should not fail. Unfortunately, Onkyo has turned a blind eye.
Great Value If You Have One That Is Working Properly

Summary: I purchased this receiver based on magazine and on-line reviews. After initial hook-up, I listened in both Stereo and Multichannel modes. Stereo imaging was perfect and multichannel(Blu-ray)sounded good....much like my old Pioneer Elite receiver. After Audyssey 2EQ calibration, multichannel sounded fantastic. Voices in particular were much clearer and easier to understand. This was not the case for the stereo mode. Stereo imaging was gone.
Summary: After four months the HDMI input board on my TX-SR608 has died. I had the exact same failure with my previous Onkyo TX-SR606 which was out of the 2 year warranty period. The TX-SR608 was a replacement for the 606 which had a known issue with HDMI board failure. I have been in touch with Onkyo since the item is still covered under the 2 year warranty and I have only had the receiver for 4 months.
Summary: My Onkyo TX-SR606 is just over 2 years old (out of warranty) and the HDMI pass through board has failed. Turns out this is a very common problem with this model...failure of the board is almost guaranteed. Google this model and you will find forums with many dissatisfied Onkyo customers who have had this unit fail on them.
