Great product except...

mm2239, Amazon
13 October 2011
  • Summary: I really like everything about this receiver except that I have had numerous HDMI issues with it. Every 3-4 months (I've had it for about 2 years now) I get HDMI error codes show up.

Works, but get hot fast.

MGL, Amazon
10 August 2010
  • Summary: It's tricky to get all the speakers working well in surround sound. It's pretty hot so do turn it off when not used. It works well with my TiVo remote as well but only certain functions

Whats a surround sound without subwoofer.

Thomas O., Newegg
19 April 2010
  • Summary: Very disapointed that the receiver was defective on arrival. No output from subwoofer pre-outs. Subwoofer worked fine on previous receiver. Onkyo support gave me things to check including clearing the configuration -- unfortunately it did not help.
  • Pros: If it doesn't work right, there arent any pros...
  • Cons: Subwoofer output doesnt work. $32.00 to send it back to Newegg

3.5 stars

Anonymous, Newegg
8 March 2010
  • Summary: If you use a PS3 or computer to play blu-rays you will only get the Multichannel PCM light to light up. Not the Dolby TrueHD or Dolby MA. (unless you have a PS3 slim) Supposedly has same audio output via PCM but I will still like those dam lights to come on!
  • Pros: Very nice receiver, with a few flaws. Sound is awesome, plenty of power, way more hdmi ports than I will ever use. Would give 3.5 stars if Newegg ratings worked that way.
  • Cons: Takes a while to get setup the way you want it, loud clicking noise whenever audio format changes, Onkyo says they don't support HTPC's so they are no help if you have issues. (although it works fine for me) Remote kinda sucks (not very universal), gets a little warm so a small fan helps to remov...

Good Value

S. Block, Amazon
21 January 2010
  • Summary: Overall, this receiver is pretty good. I replaced a Denon AVR-2805 because I needed HDMI switching and upconversion. Pros: 1) The sound is much improved. The included microphone and auto-calibrate routine did a great job of optimizing the surround sound settings for our existing 5.1 speaker system.

Onkyo TX-SR607 Very good HT receiver, just OK for music...

Steve C, Amazon
13 January 2010
  • Summary: I'll admit I was torn between buying a stereo receiver and a home theater type because I generally listen to music more often or at least with more passion. When my early-mid 90's vintage JVC RX807V started losing the left channel I knew it was time to make the move.

Slightly Disappointed

Derek H., Newegg
6 January 2010
  • Summary: I really purchased this to clean up my wiring and multiple selectors, but it only helped a little since I still have to connect all my composite video directly to the TV because of the flickering, and I can't not actually use the Game composite ports for a Game system because I am using Game on...
  • Pros: Does the job.
  • Cons: It was not clear to me that I could not have a game system on the HDMI port and one on the Game composite port as well. It's one or the other. Also, you can only assign HDMI and Component, but not composite. All the composite video passing through the receiver comes through with slight distortion...

handshake issues

kent b., Newegg
29 December 2009
  • Summary: The handshake issue looks to be specifically between some new panasonic viera's and this specific Onkyo tx sr607. Bummer wish I could keep it.
  • Pros: Killer sound. Really happy with the sound. I have a new set of polk monitor 60's this system pushes them great. No need for a sub with good speakers but it helps. Set up was reasonable.
  • Cons: No handshake with my new panasonic viera. No video and no passthrough. Onkyo says its panasonics problem. Panasonic offers a patch but didnt send it when promised then 2 weeks later sends an email stating it wouldnt help anyway. I likely would give this system 5 eggs if it worked with my TV. As i...

The extra or bonus item value?

William H., Newegg
17 November 2009
  • Summary: Hopefully NewEgg will offer the IPod interface again. What will be the total cost to repair if the front auxilary port is DOA. Shipping?
  • Pros: Nice looking to buy
  • Cons: This bonus item is kinda useless if you have your own cables already -- Cables UnlimitedTM Clean & Connect kit for HDTVs includes 6 MicroFiber cloths & 2 Ultrafast 10.2Gbps v1.3B HDMI cables

Great But

Robert T., Newegg
13 June 2009
  • Summary: Receiver needs a 1/2 mute option. Runs hot needs a lot of ventillation
  • Pros: Great receiver, clear sound. Room set up microphone works great. Sound field options adequate. Upscales all incoming signals to 1080p. Zone II performance impressive. Good set up support from Onyko
  • Cons: After three weeks of ownership the TV signal coming through the receiver deteriorated producing a bluish picture of poor quality. Had to send it to be repaired. Will be gone for 4 weeks. Somewhat annoying. Entertainment center not functional. If I wouldn't have ignored the problem for a week I wo...
