Great sound quality, frustating feature limitations

Summary: I purchased this receiver to replace a five year old Sony. The sound is amazing but there are several strange feature constraints. Strengths: -Excellent sound quality -Intuitive auto speaker setup using the included remote microphone -On-screen setup is a nice feature that's usually not included in this price range -720p up-scaling for composite and component inputs look great -HDMI output video quality is excellent - comparable to a direct connect between the TV and...
Summary: Firstly, got a great price for the unit a $332 and free shipping. This unit has a couple of problems for me though: 1) there is no switched power receptacle for the sub-woofer to plug in (hence sub-woofer stays on all the time); 2) unit distorts picture from analog VCR when fast forwarding making it hard to know when you get to your spot (skipping commercials etc); 3) unit seems to delay the signal enough to create echoes when you turn on a TV to the same channel; 4)...
Pretty good, but component video switching is terrible.

Summary: I've been a longtime Onkyo fan, and when my TX-DS575 receiver which I bought in 2000 died from a power surge I decided to stick with a product I was comfortable with. The 605 offered a promising upgrade, with 7.1 channels and 2 zone speaker outputs and 105w per channel. I thought it was interesting that Onkyo offered an optional ipod dock, but when I found that the ipod dock they offered connected using RCA inputs I decided to not opt for this.
Summary: I posted this in the forum hoping to find a solution but could not. I bought this receiver from Amazon, found the particular problem I describe, figured it was a faulty receiver and returned it to Amazon to get a replacement - the replacement has the same issue, so I'm starting to think it's a "feature". I have my Cable box connected via Component out to the receiver. Then output via HDMI to my TV (which supports up to 720p, not 1080p).
Summary: What you need to keep in mind with this receiver is the great price, it sounds fantastic, and you get a lot of options for a receiver at this price level. BUT, there are some definite compatibility issues with this receiver (read other reviews as well as mine). I bought this receiver b/c I wanted to consolidate the cables going to my TV. My TV is an older HD 1080i rear projection RCA with one DVI input and two component inputs.
Summary: Right now this is probably one of the best bang for the buck cheap receivers. It decodes all new formats plus 2x HDMI 1.3a switching. I have attached an automatic 1.3 3x HDMI switcher to HDMI1 for a total of 4 HDMI inputs and it works flawlessly with Toshiba DVD player, Toshiba HD-A3 and Playstation 3 attached to the switcher and Xbox 360 to the HDMI2. The power output seams a little bit on the weaker side compared to the Onkyo 702 that it replaced.
