Summary: It amazes me how people don't do their research or read a products description before buying. And then are dumb enough to let us all know that they are unhappy with their dumb mistake. So many complain here that the HDMI is Pass-Thru, yet its stated in the products description.
Summary: This was an emergency purchase as my old Technics system blew up. I couldn't be more pleased! The Technics was a ProLogic simulated surround system, so this was my first experience with true surround sound, and I just can't get enough of it. The sound quality is great, crystal clear and rich.
Summary: I made a step forward from my previous receiver, and paid a VERY fair price for its many options.
Pros: This has a multitude of connectivity options, looks good, maxes out at a volume my neighbors would call the cops on me for... Don't know what else to say, it's a part of my new perfect home theater system and it's making me happy :)
Cons: As you may have read in other reviews (which I didn't notice in time) the audio does not make it through the HDMI cables, so you have to run separate cables for your audio from device to receiver. This was disappointing since I wanted to play Halo 3 online in HD for the first time when I set this...
Summary: I think manufacturer's should say more explicitly if a product it only pass-through HDMI (could even be an upselling point). Yes, you will find out if you are tech savvy and do research, and sure, people who aren't probably won't even notice, but still :P All in all a great bang for the buck if you...
Pros: Tons of inputs. For an entry level 7.1, you really couldn't ask for more. Good power for smaller spaces like mine (apt). HDMI switching: very convenient and assignable with any audio input. Plenty of video/audio modes (DVR, DVD, Aux, etc.) and all customizable! Nothing like my old receiver.
Cons: Only pass-through HDMI, but if you know this beforehand and get the proper cable, there are still 4 digital inputs so you won't miss out.
Pros: I am very glad I bought this unit! I took my time and researched alot of brands before I chose this one. It wasn't too bad to set up- but you gotta read that manual first. I like how you use the microphone that's included to set up your speakers. I have a great sound now to go with my 50" Plasma ...
Summary: Paired this up with a Polk Audio 10" Powered Subwoofer. Let the system go ahead and automatically setup speaker levels through the microphone included. Everything sounded pretty good, but was getting some muddy bass at times, so manually went in and changed crossover setting to 100 HZ (was at 120HZ...
Pros: Easy Setup, Easy wiring, excellent sound!! Where else are you going to find a 7.1 Channel Receiver for this price?! Onkyo quality.
Cons: Strange controls to get used to...my old RCA receiver was much more straight forward. Even the screen leaves you guessing as to what is going on (have to read manual to understand screen output). Remote kinda sucks...jammed alot of buttons into a small space. Have to remember to hit Receiver butt...
Summary: ONKYO really topped themselves with this one!And Newegg...YOU GUYS ROCK!!!!
Pros: Has everything! You can hook everything up to this.I've been looking for a decent 7.1 for some time.Couldn't pass this up and glad I didn't.For a receiver like this I would have expected a much higher price.
Cons: My lcd only has a 60000 hr life span. That's gonna go quick now, cause I don't wanna turn it off.Everything sounds like I'm really there.
Summary: This is a good basic A/V receiver. I got this for my computer to drive the 7.1 speakers I already had. I'm strictly using it for amplification so I'm not concerned with the lack of audio through HDMI. Audessy is a nice plus for easy setup.
Summary: I bought this for my family for Christmas. I would consider myself a very technically savvy person, and I found the set-up to be quite easy, though I think that someone of average technical acumen might have problems understanding the initial patching and programming.
