Summary: I was disappointed that there was no up converting the inputs to hdmi output, but that was my fault for not doing a better job reviewing the product. I was happy about the features like the zone 2 which I promptly hooked up to my outdoor speakers on my patio. After having the receiver for a week I finally got my new plasma TV and dish network hd. This is when I discovered that the hdmi pass-through did not work.
Summary: The hdmi video output does not work. The Zone 2 out does not work. I've tried both a direct speaker connection and the output to secondary amp connection - neither work. I would not recommend this unit. Onkyo's solution is to take the unit to the nearest service center - 700 miles away.
Summary: I bought this to hook up surround to my tv. This model has HDMI video only, so will not play sound from a HDMI source. I returned product and bought something else. Was very heavy well built unit, would be great for a stero setup, but is not for your new tv setup!
Summary: I purchased this HDMI receiver thinking it was a great deal. When I started hooking it up, I realized it wasn't such a great deal!! This receiver DOES NOT extract the audio from the HDMI cables. All info is sent to the TV. If you want audio for your surround system, you need to hook up a separate audio link. Second, although this receiver has multiple input types (i.e. S-video, HDMI, composite, component) they do NOT all transmit via the HDMI out.
