A good receiver at a great price

ted659, Ebay
16 November 2010
  • Summary: The Onkyo SR504 receiver produces excellent, clear, high fidelity audio at a great price. It has enough power to run any speaker I have and has enough features to keep most people more than happy with its flexiblity. The price does mean there's some drawbacks though. There's no HDMI ports, and it cannot convert or upscale any video inputs.

Very Solid Component for the Price

Penner, Amazon
24 December 2007
  • Summary: Full, rich sound with a thoughtfully-organized rear panel and an impressive roster of DSP modes. Very easy to set up and use. My only complaint: The device can't remember individual channel settings for separate source inputs. For example, I like to watch DVDs with the center channel set at +5 dB, so that dialogue pops more clearly. But for music, I prefer to use a surround mode with the center channel at -5, which increases the field depth to my ears.

Good Value Receiver

Zip, Amazon
2 November 2007
  • Summary: I used Consumer Reports rating to select this unit in addition to online reviews by others. According to CR, the "useability" was rated above average and I do think it is better than my previous Sony - which had 40+ buttons on the front. This has less buttons and is easier to decipher. The remote is also much better than Sony's.

Reasonable 7.1 receiver.

John "electronic guru", Amazon
14 July 2007
  • Summary: This is a nice receiver for the money. It automatically tracks audio input formats and displays same. It does not have a lot of power and is a little weak on the rear and side channels however it is enough for a small room.

  • Summary: 1.) Worth the $150 - Yes for the most part 2.) Unit does get very HOT at high volumes of sounds - which will shutdown the right channel 3.) nice amp replacement for CD and DVD head units 4.) 7.1 is over kill I would be fine with just 5.1 5.

good buy on a/v receiver

W. L. Martin, Amazon
13 June 2007
  • Summary: I am pleased with this purchace. Very good quality for the money. Good looking with lots of audio settings to choose from. I recommend it. The only problem I have with this unit is the speaker connections. They are closely set together and can be difficult to insert the speaker wires into them. A minor defect...at worst.

Stereo Receiver

K. B. Layne, Amazon
29 May 2007
  • Summary: Good surround unit. I am replacing an existing Onkyo 5.1 surround tuner where the sub-out stopped working. This one is good, but i was a little dispappointed that it didn't have preamp outs similar to my old 5.1. I am happy with my choice since it was very reasonably priced, free shipping and the remote is much better!
