It takes forever for sound and picture to come through

max power, Amazon
22 May 2011
  • Summary: After owning it for 2 years, this problem is now showing up on my receiver [...] I visited onkyousa.com to find a firmware update but none is available. How frustrated is it to get this kind of problem after spending so much money on a receiver. My next receiver will be a Marantz again...

It Overheats - stay away from it

Expert Reader 1 "Spot On Review", Amazon
25 March 2009
  • Summary: This model of Onkyo receiver overheated with me and it seems to be a common problem. Just Google Onkyo (or this model) along with the words "hot" and "sparks" or "fire". The first Onkyo (this receiver) I bought from Amazon worked for a week, and then in popped loudly, sparks, sizzled loudly, and then smoke started pouring out the top. It self destructed. I sent it back to Amazon for a replacement thinking I just got a lemon.

Yamaha RX-V663 Sounds Better, Has All Features for 70% Less

Kumar H. Shah "Kumar", Amazon
23 January 2009
  • Summary: Not to quibble with the other reviewers here, who provide no comparison, what is there not to like in a $1500 receiver. But to have almost all these features, certainly all the ones that count, ability to connect all your HD sources with 1080p connections through HDMI and codecs for all possible sound sources, the Yamaha for $350 plus a Harmony universal remote for $50 sounds a lot better and does everything the Onkyo does for a lot less.
