Summary: From the start it was an uphill struggle. I had HDMI problems from the get go. I updated the firm ware. Then receiver got into this weird mode wouldn't show Digital content came up in stereo not AC mode. So I decided to Reset the Receiver and start fresh.
Summary: For the onkyo after returning a Sony. I was not impressed with the Sony and the onkyo is no better. It is easy to hook up, but the operation is more complicated than it needs to be. Detail overkill is what I would use to describe the settings.
Pros: Looks good, nice commanding presence. Sales descriptions get you excited and make you want to buy it.
Cons: Disappointing performance and unnecessarily complicated to extract the desired power which turns out to be not there.
Summary: Bought a refurb, bad move. Moving up from an older Onkyo 609 which was fine but less wattage and features. Gave that one away for Christmas and now I am stuck with NO receiver! This was great for 3 weeks of light use and then the display started to go first and finally last Sunday, just in time for...
Summary: Folks, a friendly advice that will save you money and time. NEVER BUY any ONKYO product. Their service and brand value is almost zero. I bought N709 for my Synergy F30 set and Onkyo has a global HDMI board problem on ALL their A/V receivers (manufactured 2009-2013) leading to global recall!!!!
Summary: Onkyo was a brand i loved , purchased the 609 and after a year or so the hdmi board had problems, took it back to where I purchased it and decided to give the 828 a whirl and was very pleased with the amp . Five months later the amp has got the same issues as the 609, no sound.
Pros: Good if it worked
Cons: HDMI Board has serious problems throughout there range .. don't waste your money .
Summary: Well after the initial positive review I started having problems with the receiver. I had friends over and we were going to watch a movie. When I started the movie we got a great picture but no sound. I never could resolve the problem so no movie that night. The next day I tried again but no joy.
Summary: After purchasing multiple Onkyo receivers from $450 to $750 over the past two plus years for multiple locations, a pattern has become clear. The audio components are not reliable. We have had audio problems with three out of five Onkyo receivers.
Summary: This is the second Onkyo receiver I have ordered from Amazon. The first one was the smaller 626 which was sold as new but is not new. It arrived with the settings configured by a previous user. I was able to clear it and get into set up, but the firmware update failed.
Summary: Ok this is the second Onkyo I purchased this year. I guess I am a glutton for punishment. The first was the 717. It was extremely difficult to set up, and required special instructions from support that was simply not present in the manual anywhere.
