Summary: Like everybody else says, same problem.... It went quiet after just under 3 years, after warranty expiry. Can't believe how everybody is having the same issue after about the same amount of time. However, I just contacted Onkyo and they said they would fix it even if it's past warranty. Will update with better rating if it really gets fixed. Obviously this shouldn't happen in the first place but good customer service would be a positive.
Summary: I purchased a TX-NR808 in Feb of this year. Initially, it was great; HOWEVER, about a month ago I started having problems with it. The first problem was that on random occassions it wouldn't turn on with the remote. Once on, the remote would control all of the functions. Then, it wouldn't enter standby/shut off, even if I pressed the actual button on the unit. Then, none of the buttons on the receiver would work. Then it started randomly changing inputs.

Summary: This is a very good receiver. The sound quality is very good (4 stars for the sound quality). I replaced a month old Denon (with no network connectivity) with this network ready receiver. THX certification has surely added to a better sound quality. The Theatrical output over a 5.1 channel speaker system is very good. I like the network connectivity for online upgrades. HD radio over internet and USB is another superb feature. The UI is very good and intuitive. Cons: 1.
Summary: Onkyo TX-NR808 sounds good. However the following network issues lower my rate: - As another reviewer wrote, I also had the "Now Initializing" issue. When I switch to NET/USB, the "Now Initializing" displays indefinitely. Unplug and plug network cable, and switching to NET/USB again can sometimes solve this issue, but I have to do this every time I turn on the receiver. I updated the firmware, but this issue was NOT resolved.
Summary: Leider habe ich nur Pech mit dem Gerät. Zweimal war es zur Reparatur weil ständig der Ton wegblieb. Da dies nur sporadisch passiert ist kam es natürlich dann so das ich ihn als er zum zweiten mal zum Kundendiesnt ging von diesem kein Fehler im Testlauf festgestellt wurde und ich das Gerät so wieder mitnehmen musste. Drei Tage später wieder das gleiche Problem, Ton geht ständig für kurze Zeit weg während das Bild keine Störung aufweist.
