Summary: I've read other's comments on here about how Onkyo support sucks. Just wanted to point out if you go there website, there is a Special Service Program under Support for this issue that Onkyo will fix the receiver for free.
Pros: Worked great till the hdmi switch board failed and there was the typical symptoms of no sound and grayed out network in menu. I've owned the 601 (still going strong for my brother who I sold it to) and you can tell the improvements as the years have gone by in terms of the interface and functiona...
Summary: I am going to post a review for public service. Same story as others... here is mine... Bought is 2011. The receiver has excellent sound, a lot of features. Kind of complicated to set up but they are all the same. The OSD is from the 80s. The network functions have always been a matter of luck.
Summary: Bought this unit in 2011. Few weeks ago, I found the Internet radio was not working and did not pay attention to it. Today I tried to get it up for Thanksgiving and realized that no sound from the receiver. Network & firmware update menu grayed out as well.
Summary: My biggest complaint was if your display out is via the RCA jacks (like to your projector), you can't play any of your HDMI connected components (like your DVD player). My second complaint was that we started experiencing problems with the sound.
Summary: I bought this receiver on December 12, 2010 and the remote control crapped out about a year later. Last week, the entire unit just stopped delivering sound. Upon researching the NR808 on the internet, I found this to be a common problem with the receiver.
Summary: The Onkyo TX-NR808 is a fantastic system, when it works. The issue is sooner or later the HDMI board goes out and you'll lose audio for your Zone 1 & Zone 2 (if you are using the integrated amplifier for Zone 2). I dealt with this after owning the receiver for about 24 months.
Summary: Don't buy! This is junk. I bought it 2.5 years ago. I've had the "no audio" problem fixed already (6 weeks in the shop) and I got it back and now the surround is not working. And now the audio is not working again. Now wtf do I do with this $1000 receiver that doesn't work. Thanks Onkyo...crooks
Summary: Add yet another to the list of 808s that stopped outputting sound, though I feel lucky that mine lasted 3 years before it went. I called Onkyo Parts & Warranties and they said that I may be eligible for one time out-of-warranty service repair.
3 years old, and suddenly No Sound and No Networking
26 December 2013
Summary: Add me to this ever growing list of Onkyo TX-NR808 owners who suddenly have a very heavy brick for an AV Receiver. Apparently, this is a well known issue, by owners as well as the manufacturer.
