Summary: Almost 3 years to the day (I was luckier than a lot of others who were 2 months over their warranty when...) one night the receiver was working perfectly as it had since I got it 10/2010 the next morning NO AUDIO AT ALL !!!!! So I go through all the steps rechecking connections etc., etc. for 2 1/2 weeks !!! Finally I get on line with the ONKYO forum and find to my amazement and dismay that there were SEVERAL people with the EXACT same problem.
My Onk turned into an oink! 30 months later...no sound no matter the source.

Summary: At this price point, you would expect to get at least 5 years of service. Replaced with a Sony 740 with 4 yr warranty at BB. Thought about repairing but could not justify sending good money for old technology and a product with so many design flaws. The folks at Onkyo are aware of this problem and should pay all repair cost including shipping along with an additional 2 year warranty. Amazon should drop this company because they are ripping off the public!
Summary: Count me among the many others with no sound a few months after the warranty expired. The receiver was excellent until then. I contacted Onkyo support, and they agreed to cover the repair! I was ready to swear off Onkyo forever, but now I'm a happy camper again.
Summary: Like many other Onkyo users, my receiver has the "no audio" problem after a little over two years of use (just outside the warranty period). Stay away from this series, the HDMI boards seem to be engineered to last only 2 years.
Summary: It might sound like I'm joking, but this receiver blew sparks from the top and will no longer function six months after the warranty expired. While watching Netflix on our television, at the same volume and settings as the receiver has done for its entire life, it just erupted into sparks leaving us with a shelf sized brick. Not only that but we had to send it in for warranty work 2 months after purchase and the service was horrible.
Summary: Wow. What a bummer. When the sound stopped... for no apparent reason, I tried to connect and reconnect everything. When I did an internet search on TX-NR808 and "TX-NR808 No Sound" came up as a suggested default search -- I sorta knew that things didn't look good. And I'm just out of the 2 year warranty period. This seems to be a very common problem. Very disappointing.
Summary: I purchased mine for a great deal right before the new year model came out and this was in April of 2011. My system is a mid line setup made up of definitive technology speakers (BP8060ST/BP8080SR/CS8060HD/SM45) and I have run it in 7 channel for the majority of my ownership. I found that Audessey DSX with front wide speakers yields the best experience.
Summary: I bought this receiver from Newegg back when it first came out and honestly only used it to manage my HDMI connections at first. Then I bought some decent Klipsch speakers which sounded beautiful for music, movies, & TV. Everything was running fine until about 4 months into using the Klipsch speakers and all of a sudden the receiver died(I verified the speakers are fine) (Failed 2yr 5mo after purchase).
