Summary: I had an older (20 years older) reciver, but needed something with great A/V and 7.1. This reciver has been great, the sound and multi zone mode works great. The only thing I didn't like was the didgital input from zone1, HDMI TV, can't be directed to zone2/3.
Summary: Love my Onkyo TX-NR717. Haven't had a chance to try out all the features yet, but so far everything seems to work great. I had a Marantz SR4200 before, but the HDMI input and output broke, so I got this to replace it. I must said I'm very happy with Onkyo.
This is worth the effort! Glad I did not keep my SONOS!

Summary: I upgrade a 12 year old Onkyo 797 receiver because I desired better integration of my HDMI and Network Audio components. The old receiver, though amazing sound performance, lacked HDMI and I was out of optical ports. Enter the decision to use a SONOS system, or buy a TX-NR717.
Summary: Powerful enough to drive my highest-end Klipsch 12" sub, my PS-B towers. and surrounds with tiny THD and as much volume as I care to have. Compare specs when you buy: These ONKYOs have the lowest THD. Easy setup. Replaces a previous Onkyo whose video circuit kept blowing.
Summary: The TX-NR717 was purchased about 6 months ago. I chose to run this alongside and Emotiva 5 channel amp and this pairing brought my Klipsch reference setup to life!!!. I particularly love this receiver for its options like streaming music, the 3d ready option, the amount of HDMI hookups and the ease...
Summary: Highs- Sound clarity overall - especially through center channel Video upscaling is simply best in class Value for money Ease of use - amazing tweekability Lows- Only that USB updating is necessary. Easy to do though. Tried Denon 1913 before deciding on the 717.
Summary: This receiver is great for the price, along with Klipsch Speakers I here all the sound and more, I am still going through all of this 7.2 channel receive, and will come back and give a complete review, I replace the the Avr 391 Denon , It never work right with the HDMI pass through,
