Summary: This receiver is a tremendous value. It is one of only a few surround receivers that has preamp outputs. Not only does it have preamp outputs for the main left/right channels, it has preamp outputs for ALL channels. Preamp outputs are / can be important for a couple of reasons. Perhaps the most important reason, however, is for end users that own 4 ohm speakers. This unit, and many receivers in general, are not rated for use with 4 ohm speakers.
Summary: Although I have not explored all of the features that this receiver has, so far I'm impressed with the performance. The sound is great and the flexibility in regards to inputs is what led me to purchase this unit. I needed a receiver that had both component and HDMI inputs and this had them. My only complaint is that the instruction/owners manual is on-line. I much prefer to have a printed version to refer to and the on-line version would take way too much ink to print!
Summary: I bought this from Amazon about 6 weeks ago & so far so good. This is an upgrade from a 2005 Onkyo receiver that didn't have HDMI inputs/outputs but did have 4 digital audio inputs. My older receiver was also 7.1 so I all I had to switch out the receiver and plug in the cables. My rating for this receiver is 4.25 stars. The audio delivers a good punch for a medium sized room. It has decoded every digital audio format I have thrown at it.
Summary: Pros: Great quality, 3 independent zones. (2 zones if you use 5 channels for zone 1). I purchased an Ethernet WiFi adapter for this. It works great with online music. Not so great with sharing music from a Windows computer over the wifi network (even though it recognizes the windows computer as DLNA). I use Pandora and vTuner with this. I have connected my TV's audio output to this via the optical cable. Better sound than TV speakers.
Summary: My wife bought this for me for Christmas from amazon. I picked it out and knew what I wanted it to do. I was comparing to Denons that my neighbors have but this beat the price by a few hundred. I bought it for a few reasons. My tv is 50ft away from my set top box and dvd player. My ps3 is my bluray player and sits next to the tv. ARC was important to make it work correctly.
Summary: First off, I own a TX-SR805.The Reciever is a beast' 135 watts x 7. It weighs in at 52 lbs. It was one of the first that had HDMI processing. I love this reciever, so purchasing a new model meant the new one had to be exceptional. The 717 has eight HDMI inputs with two outputs. The upconvert system works very well with no complaints. It is also tv friendly, meaning that when I use the reciever with the sattellite I have full Dolby surround sound.
