Negative reviews are because some units broke down. Onkyo now offers free repairs. It's an otherwise awesome receiver.

Summary: I have this receiver since it came out. It offers so much more connectivity then newer receivers: multichannel analog in, plenty of optical and coax digital inputs. It also sounds very good. It did break down twice. First time was within warranty, it got fixed.
Summary: I am replacing an old Realistic analog tuner with those beautiful turquoise lights but with a bad channel. I am enjoying my turntable through the phono inputs on the Onkyo receiver and getting good sound (Numark with Shure cartridge) and am also pleased with FM sensitivity with one station in...
Summary: Bought mine last August (2010) got it home and noticed slight hissing and static in the brand new speakers (Klipsch 2xF20, 4xS20, C2, SUB-12). Thought maybe it was the speaker wire or connections. Replaced all wire with high quality wire and banana plugs.
Summary: It took me about 3 hours to disconnect the existing connections to my, roughly, 10 year old Panasonic [HA-SE70] and reconnect to the TX-NR708. Part of the delay was due to the fact that I'd hooked up the surround speakers to the Back surrounds which caused Audessy set up to fail.
Pros: Sound quality Network/Internet/USB (IPOD) Power Remote Zone 2
Cons: Not really a knock on this AVR, but in general the lack of feeding digital audio to second zone. I know it's rarely available in AVR's in this proce range...
Summary: As the title reads, I love this thing! I upgraded to this from a different Onkyo (HT-RC160). The NR708 really appealed to me because of the network support and also the VGA(PC) video input. It was difficult to find a nice mid-range AVR that had the VGA input.
Summary: first, this would've gotten 5 stars had it not been for the fact that i couldn't access online features until i performed a usb firmware up date out of the box. granted, it was an easy process. my only other issue is it seems as the volume doesn't go that high.
Summary: So this receiver is the bee's knees. The internet integration and service is seriously impressive and can be operated without the TV on, simply by following the info on the digital display on the receiver. The up-scaling is also very good.
Summary: I've Had the Onkyo TX-NR708 for about a Month Now, incredible unit! This unit does everything I expected. I use it for everything, Movies,Internet Radio(with ethernet cable), TV, Cable, BlueRay,IPOD Touch, also can connects to your PC(supports Window7.) With the HDMI inputs make's it super simple.
Summary: I'm still lost in all the options, it'll take a few weeks to tweak this to my liking.
Pros: Excellent configurability Many sound filter options to make the best of your speaker setup. Audyssey auto-setup alone is worth the price difference from the TX-SR608. The mic that comes with it even has a threaded hole in the base to mount to a tripod for easier positioning! Internet Radio works ...
Cons: A very (VERY) slight degradation in picture quality (mostly a slight "fuzzing" of fonts) when passing through video from my HTPC, even when set to "Through" mode. Note that this is barely visible to me on a 65" TV set to 1080p resolution with the seating position only 9' away from the TV. If I wa...
