Summary: First I want to say I love this unit, for the price it can't be beat. I upgraded from a budget 7.2 onkyo unit that died after four years. (I think something was wrong with it however. The thing got so hot you couldn't even touch it. That's what I get for buying open box) To this unit is a lot better, runs cooler, sounds better, operating interface is great. Pros: -Operator interface patches through to the main screen through the HDMI Out.
Summary: I recently decided to install surround sound in my living room, installing speakers in the ceiling for the rear channel, and picking up a center channel that matched my existing towers. Anyone thinking that in ceiling speakers are a questionable choice, I highly recommend checking out my review of the JBL SP8CII 2-Way, Round 8-Inch In-Ceiling Speaker with Swivel Mount Tweeter (Pair) ...
Summary: I have read the past reviews of people who have owned these receivers. Normally I would read them, and would have my doubts. Considering the firmware updates for this particular address the same issues as others have experienced, I bit my tongue and took a chance! My review for this product is based on my past experience. I am NOT by any means an expert in the field of electronics. Others may have and probably DO, have MUCH more experience with receivers.
Summary: I've purchased this Onkyo NR616 after a bad experience with Harman Kardon customer service and I am extremely pleased. I am new to home theater systems, but I've quickly learned of Onkyo reputation and this unit is up to it and although it's priced the same as the HK AVR1700 I returned, I think it's far superior with much more functions.
First Thing First... Do the USB Firmware update!!!

Summary: FIRST THING FIRST... You must check that your firmware is version 1141-0108-0400 (or later version), you must update it via USB memory stick ONLY before you do anything else. If you don't then you run the risk of having the HDMI video output to your HDTV shutting down! I purchased this TX-NR616 on St. Valentines Day 2013, so far it's been great, however I will update this review when I have had some long term use.
4 stars right now, 5 stars if updating firmware was clearer

Summary: If you are reading the Onkyo reviews, you know about the firmware bugs (HDMI out issues). Personally, I felt like I was going crazy looking at all the reviews on several other equivalent models, because haters are going to hate. It is difficult to find any receiver in this price range that doesn't have some flaky units and failures. So, I researched, and first tried the Onkyo TX-NR515.
Summary: I had read a lot of reviews on this item before my purchase. For the price I thougth this is would be a great receiver. So I decided to purchase and give it my own test and review. Out of the box this unit was in great condition, good packaging. I set it up with my 5.1 polk audio system. It sounded and worked great until a few days later. I powered my TV on, then powered the receiver on... a blank screen on the TV is all I was getting like other reviewers had posted.
Awesome A/V and great value, better than yamaha or HK of his kind

Summary: Excellent AV receiver, I thought Harman Kardon, but when I decide to buy this one , I am very right about it, I want it basically for view movies in my home theater, and my decision was very right, I replace my old yamaha RXV-692. The onkyo 616 was my best choice because the THX works perfectly, the sound, 7.2 and 5.2 channels effects are awesome, and the conextion with the net is very fast, the firmware up date is very fast, the odissey calibration system is the better...
Summary: I initally bought this product to replace my previous Onkyo 7.1 surround system because I needed the 3D pass through so that I didn't have to have everything connected directly to the TV as it's about 10 feet away from the receiver and satellite box etc. When I first received the product it was AWFUL. Nothing would show up on the screen properly and the update process failed mulitple times over the network until I did it using a USB stick.
