Very happy

David F., Newegg
21 October 2013
  • Summary: Very happy with the performance and ease of use once setup. Solid receiver.
  • Pros: Lots of features and settings allowing for customizing for individual preferences. Updated firmware 1st thing. Have had no issues with HDMI as others reported. Solid video and return audio via HDMI.
  • Cons: There are lots of options making setup difficult via the front panel. Save some frustration and hook it up to a TV for setup. Front panel labels are a bit hard to read due to low contrast text color.

Onkyo TX-NR616 was a cautious buy but so far It's working fine.

Andrew D. Denny, Amazon
14 October 2013
  • Summary: First let me say that price was the main reason why I purchased this unit. I needed a new receiver to replace a non networked Yamaha unit in my bedroom which is setup for 5.1 but at under $320, this was a steal.

Good, but has flaws

J. Lyon, Amazon
16 August 2013
  • Summary: First I want to say I love this unit, for the price it can't be beat. I upgraded from a budget 7.2 onkyo unit that died after four years. (I think something was wrong with it however. The thing got so hot you couldn't even touch it.

Nice Receiver for the Price -So Far...No Issues!

Brian R, Amazon
6 August 2013
  • Summary: I have read the past reviews of people who have owned these receivers. Normally I would read them, and would have my doubts. Considering the firmware updates for this particular address the same issues as others have experienced, I bit my tongue and took a chance!

Excellent receiver!

Kahren Aydinyan, Amazon
23 June 2013
  • Summary: Great receiver! I bought this because I needed a receiver that can power a second zone for my outside speakers, and it's able to do just that. I found that the setup is kind of confusing. Took me about 2 hours to get this working with my TV as I only get channels from the antenna.

Good review in a sea of bad

Mark S., Newegg
21 April 2013
  • Summary: I am glad I read through all the reviews to find that Onkyo had fixed most of the problems when this first came out. We shall see how this works out in the long run. I did purchase the extended warranty, something I never do, but why not be safe.
  • Pros: As advertised! Easy to hook up. Tuned the speakers in a few minutes. Love the updated on screen menus.
  • Cons: None so far. Was a bit quite at first but made some adjustments and now it is perfect.
