Summary: We like others were hesitant to buy this receiver with all of the bad reviews. We decided to take a chance with it. We can tell you it is not worth taking a chance. The first indication of problems was when we turned it on and there was a loud buzzing/ humming noise coming from the unit. We turned the unit off and turned it back on and it cleared up. However you had to turn the volume up to 60 to 70 out of 99 when you watched a bluray, just to have good volume.
Summary: I really wanted to like this receiver Onkyo TX-NR616 7.2-Channel THX Select2 Plus Certified Network A/V Receiver(Black) . I have waited for years to upgrade my old Pioneer. I was ready to pull the trigger on the predecessor to this receiver, the TX-NR606 about a year ago, when I saw the release stats on this one. I waited for 6 months to order.
Summary: I loved this unit when it arrived and loved the sound quality and ease of setup, but after a month and a half I have had my first issue, and it seems I am not the only one. The first issue I had was that since the unit can not downgrade HDMI signals (1080p -> 1080i), if a device negotiates a higher HDMI setting than your screen can handle you will end up with no video output.

Summary: First of all, I have been a satisified Onkyo customer for 10 years or better. I have purchased at least 3 that I can think of. I purchased this unit after my current Onkyo Tx-SR604 started making a buzzing noise from all of the speakers. I read up on the current product line a decided on the TX-NR616. After hooking everything up (including the upscaling of a Wii system) I was very happy with the features and GUI interface.
Summary: I hooked this receiver up last night- I bought it with the USB internet gizmo and was able to listen to Pandora. Today I get the Firmware update message so I tried to do the update-the receiver had an error, and the fix according to the manual is to un-plug it and try again. I did that, and made sure that the router signal was good, got the same error, and now will un-plug it again. All I was after was a home theater receiver that worked.
Summary: Current patch appears to have resolved HDMI Output and Remote Power Button issues that are well documented, however there are serious stability issues with the overall platform. Have had the system freeze in the Net screen, multiple freezes when using the Android Remote application, Interface color tint glitching, and DLNA appears to only function while the device is in some menus. All of this and I have only had the device for 3 days!
Summary: i read the reviews. they said the main hdmi will go out. i read it on multiple sites, but the allure of these features at this amazing price couldn't keep me away... i thought: "maybe mine won't have that problem". well guess what... my main hdmi went out 3 times in a week. everytime i reset it and then it would do it's 'update' and i'd go through the whole setup again only to have it go out again. very frustrating when you do this a couple times.
Summary: I ordered this product from newegg. Within a few days, the main HDMI output failed. I sent it back to newegg and ordered an identical replacement from Amazon. Within a few days, the main HDMI output on the replacement receiver failed. In the meantime, I had moved my equipment from my equipment closet (80' HDMI cable, ...) to the TV shelf, rewired speakers, etc. I fiddled with the replacement NR616 and eventually the HDMI output began working again.
Summary: I've been trying to setup for 4 days. One time it will show certain inputs, next time it won't. Connected directly to wired ethernet and nothing happened. Changed to wireless USB and that kicked in the wired but still won't see an update for new firmware. I search for remote codes and one time it listed my TV and since then it can't find any remote codes. Very frustrating compared to last years model which seemed to have a simple setup.
